Need opionions on this..please

Original post by PeteysBride

I need opinions here ladies ..My first reaction to what I am going to type is to be annoyed...BUT I am trying to keep an open mind.

SO here it is...

I got my VDay present fromm DH and it was a total surprise-something I was NOT expecting at all. And althought its a beautiful gift I am kinda upset by it...I

It's a watch. A Citizen watch with a diamond chip studded face-very elegant, BEAUTIFUL and likely very expensive and the style even mimicksthe stones in my engagement ring which he pointed out to me, so proud of himself.

I hugged and kissed him and thanked him profusely because it is a lovely gift. BUT..yes here is the but...

But ....I am kinds pissed because I NEVER wear watches and he KNOWS this...I have owned 6 watches in the the 5 years- I have known him, none of which I wore long; Two were not inexpensive and the rest were cheapy watches that i actually liked-you know those bangle kinds you can buy for 5 bucks on the streets of NYC.

But...I am just not a watch girl. DH s always saying I need to keep better time and honestly...I am not one of those people who is always late but sometimes yes, I run on my own time. NOT because I dont know the time (I use my cell) but because sh*t just happens and I roll with it. So I kinda feel like he's making a statemen with this gift...

Again, it IS GORGEOUS. I need to take a pic- but its not 'me.' And he usually is sooo good at picking out 'me' gifts' but I am fun and funky and this watch is very upscale suburban mom as far as I am concerned, but I tried hinting I might want to change it and he got REALLY upset saying he specifically picked out this one because he didn't like the others... He said if I REALLY wanted a diff one we would go...of course that made me feel like a heel so I assured him that its fine, gorgeous, perfect, etc.

-sighs- I am also sensitive I think because a few VDays ago he bought me a palm pilot...I used it for a year-now it sits there. Again it was to 'organize me.' But I always forgot I owned the thing so rarely used it. I am a post-it in the wallet kinda girl-write it down and throww em out as I go along.

I know I am being a little hyper sensitive-getting my period next week so I am aware of that...But would you be a little irked too? Like feel he is trying to change you after FIVE years of knowing EXACTLY how you are?

I don't know--I am being stupid I am sure. What do you girls think?

Its ok Taryn! I appreciate the answers guys. I really do. Kath nice to see you're alive!

I am keeping it because when I woke up, he had already taken it apart to size it to my wrist. I am just going to wear it-its not overly dressy so I can wear it everyday just as I wear most of the other 'everyday jewlery he has given me. I was dissapointed but like so many of you ponted out, he didnt mean it with malice and my marriage is far more important to me than quibbling over something this tiny in retrospect.

9/10 he hits the present nail on the head. This time he was a little off but its not like its a multicolored, tie-dyed tunic lmao that he wants me to wear. So I am keeping it but thanks again guys. I needed a few gentle shakes which y'all gave.

Thanks!

hey jenn..we chatted about this so ya know what i thought about it.

hope you don't mind but i mentioned it to DH to see his reaction and he said...'maybe its not so much that he's trying to 'fix/change her' from some bad place or criticism, but maybe he sees it as giving her something that would help her.'

i dunno, regardless...
I can understand why youd be annoyed or upset. Im SO not a watch girl..i never wear one. Just use my cell like you.

It really is a beautiful watch tho, so Id wear it on special occasions.

I am sure he meant it in the nicest possible way.. I am sure it's a beautiful watch and you can wear it on special occasions...

But how would he feel if you asked him to take it back??
