So back in November, I took a small part time job, just making collection calls for a company. I hate it, absolutely hate it, but its great money. Anyway, since I got back from the HM, I've been avoiding them and they keep calling me. I need to call the boss and tell him I quit.....but how can I do this nicely? It has been unprofessional of me the past week to not respond to emails and calls so I know he is going to be mad. TIA!

I hate confrontation too… if it was me I’d probably just mail them a letter of resignation. At least then you’ll have let them know, so it’s better than nothing.
I mean you probably SHOULD call them… but I know I probably wouldn’t.

I have to say I sorta agree with this. I know it's not the 'right' thing to do but it's just a PT job!

Call after hours and leave a message if you really don't want to get into it with the boss

It's unprofessional not to have a conversation with your boss. You never know if you'll cross paths with him again in the future, so I'd **** it up and do that right thing. Call him and tell him the truth, thank him for the opportunity, and do not burn this bridge.

Knowing me I would probably A) go into the witness protection program and change my identity to avoid the phone call... or B) call them and make up some huge story so at the end THEY feel guilty for calling me so much.
I don't suggest you do either of those.
I do think that you should just try and call and talk to them. You never know what the future holds and you should never burn bridges (not sure this exactly counts as a burning bridges scenario, but you get my point). Just simply apologize for not getting back to them sooner. Tell them things came up - you don't need to elaborate, its none of their business. It will be an uncomfortable convo but I guarantee it will be short and you will feel better afterwards.
If you have extreme anxiety about calling (like I do) then I would send the letter.
