Need suggestions for our anniversary trip!

Need suggestions for our anniversary trip!

Ugh it's so frustrating. We really can't go all out, but we want all-inclusive. We've been to Cancun twice so it's time to try someplace else. Do you know of any places that are really affordable (including airfare)? We're kind of dreaming to spend no more than $2500 for 5/6 nights. I guess I got that idea when I looked at Puerto Vallarta....very cheap but the beach is really rocky.

Any suggestions? Even if its not all inclusive...I'll take any suggestions...heck, maybe we're missing cool places to go in our own country!

TIA!

Try the Paradisus chain. There is one in the DR (I think Punta Cana) and there is one in Costa Rica. They are a pretty high end all-inclusive but they run good sales. Also, I think Sandals might be running a sale still. You can check on their website.

We went to Costa Rica for our HM and it was amazing. You can do that trip pretty inexpensively also.

how about Aruba?? we went there for the 1st week of our HM and it wasn't all the expensive, and there's some all-inclusive places.. or what about a cruise... or even CA? theres so much to see and do there and really nice beaches

DH and I went to Dominican Republic for our anniversary. We went for 6 days and we spent well under 2500. The beach was really beautiful. We stayed at the Occidential Grand Punta Cana.
We found the place because I went to a travel agent and said this is how much I want to spend where can we go. I was really pleased with what they came up with/

Tara, I think you can go to DR for that amount to an all inclusive.

Here's what I suggest - contact a travel agent, tell them 'My anniversary is on August 4th and we want to go somewhere all inclusive for 6 days for under $2500. Where can we go, what do you suggest?'

I would highly recommend Travel Tom - we used him for our honeymoon, my friend used him for her honeymoon, and my other friend is having a destination wedding in November in Punta Cana, DR and we're using him for that. In fact, we just booked our trip to Dreams Punta Cana and it's less than 2500. He's really good about keeping you within your budget and making good recommendations on resorts etc.

His email is [email protected]. Good luck!!!

DH & I are going to Jamaica 8/23 to 8/29 (6 nights) for about $2560 including travel insurance & Airfare. We are staying @ Couples Swept Away. We use Tom from AMEX as Yesi mentioned above. She recommended him to me last week.

Thanks everyone!

We've never gone through travel agents- we always do everything on expedia and sites like that. How much does a travel agent charge?

Thanks!

TA's dont charge anything.. You can always get info from them .. tell them you'll think about it and see what you can get on your own..

i do this all the time because i normally book my own trips and everytime without fail i go to a TA and i find a better deal than what they can get me!! or another TA who beats the price!

We went on our honeymoon for that amount of time to EXCELLENCE Restort in Punta Cana-its a 5 star resort and FABULOUS and it only cost us $2100 because they were havign a sale. Jamaica is really affordable too. Those were the two the travel agents pushed us for because of our budget.

I have never used a travel agent either, but being that we are going during hurricane season we wanted to make sure we are cover incase we have to cancel @ the last minute. AMEX offers 'Cancel for ANY reason insurance' Which is way better that the insurance you get through Expedia. I originally found my trip on Expedia & Tom gave me just about the same price But the isurance is WAY better. Although we can still book it online ourselves because we have an AMEX card we are still going to book with Tom because there is NO CHARGE for using a TA. They are paid by the Hotels, Resorts & Airlines, not their customers!

What about a cruise from NYC? I've been on a bunch, and loved them all. You can def do it for that amt of money, and everything is included except the alcohol. It's nice too b/c not only is there no airfare, but there's no dealing with the airport! And since you're going in the summer, you're automatically on a nice warm vacation from the moment you get on the boat! You can even do 7 days instead of 5-6 for that price if you wanted to =)

Re: Need suggestions for our anniversary trip!

we never used a TA before either, like you we though we could get a better deal by doning the web thing too. Needless to say, the last 2 trips we took including our HM the TA beat any price I could find anywhere, and even once got us on much better flights that we sold out to the public, so We go with the TA now (we always see if we can beat the prices online at home before we book)

Also- we always get trip insurance. No matter where we go, we started way back like 5 years ago when we went to Disney during hurrican season. We use InsureMyTrip.com
They have many companies that bid on your trip. Its so easy to use, and I've never had any problems with it. For 2 week HM, and cancel anytime with 100% money back on everything it was $200!! I think it is well worth it. HTH

Re: Need suggestions for our anniversary trip!

definitely check out Punta Cana!

DH and I are going in May for a week---at the Iberostar Bavaro all-suites (very popular AI resort company around the world) and its costing us like $1900 with direct flights and r/t hotel transfers!!

We used In & Out Travel (Dream Destinations) for both our HM and this trip. I found a bunch of prices online with Liberty Travel and Apple vacations, and then I called up Dave at In & Out and let him know that I wanted to give him the business vs. some online vendor---and he price matched everything!!

To book you just need to pay for airfare and like $200-300 of your hotel and then you have up to 45 days before your trip to pay the balance!

Thank you all sooo much!

I honestly thought TA's had to be paid by us!!! I guess they get their bucks from the resorts they book us at. ohhhh I get it now!

I'll be contacting Travel Tom really soon- thanks for the suggestions ladies!
