About 2 weeks ago me & DH got to our new home in Colorado and everything's been great. Got a new house, the new car is on it's way (well, it's new to ME at least. lol). The only thing missing is a JOB I'm in no rush because we're okay for a couple months, but i do want to start looking.
I understand that Colorado will pay teachers a heck of a lot less than I got paid in New York, but I'm so curious what my paychecks will look like. DH wants me to only work part time, that way there's no real obligation and it'll be easier for me to take off (since I'll be flying back to NY to visit my family often). But sometimes I get nervous about that, since the paycheck might be soooo low ESPECIALLY working part time. So here's the question..
how the heck do I find out the salary at a job?? You're not supposed to ask this during an interview, so how exactly do you find out? It's been a while since i've gone job hunting so I'm a bit rusty.
Any advice, I'd appreciate on this thanks

Re: New JOB, New SALARY. What do I do??
Im glad to hear things are going well! I would conact a Board of Ed type center to ask...my sister moved to vegas and she contacted the board of ed in Vegas and they gave her a pay range so she had an idea....
You can also try subbing, that way you can choose your days and take off when ever you want.
Good Luck!

Maybe you can look into doing some agency work...like early intervention. You can definitely do that part time and not be tied down. Not sure what they would pay there though.

You should be able to look up the salary range on salary.com -- but also there should be statistics available by the county, or some kind of employment office (like Colorado Employment Board, some kind of official govt office that keeps records on average salaries???). Spend some time googling things like 'colorado springs, co (or whatever town you are in) average teacher salary' or 'employment statistics for XXXX, colorado.' Good luck!

When I moved upstate, I was in your same predicament. I had no idea how much the pay would be. I got 2 job offers and both were around the same amount, so I figured it was the going rate. I suggest you log onto AtoZ Teacher Forum and ask other posters for a ballpark amount in the area.
