New Newlywed Here!! And Question About Name Change - Keep Maiden for Pro and Change for all Else
Hi - i'm a new newlywed!! married less than 2 weeks, so i guess i can come on here now too!! lol.
anyway, i know there are tons of threads on changing names, but i haven't seen many threads that address this specifically.
i want to keep my name for professional purposes (cpa, law), but I want to change it for everything else. first - how does this work? second - what everything else do i have to change so that it doesn't affect me professionally? for example, i haven't taken the bar exam yet - is it possible for me to keep my maiden name for the bar, but change it on my social, etc?
please help.

well - i got married in nj so there they don't really put a new name. they just put each individual name on the license. they told me if i want to change my name that i would have to do it afterwards, that the license is just a license and has nothing to do with my name. so now i don't know what to do since my name is still my original name.

I changed over to my new name-- and kept my maiden name for my RN license--( I had to renew it before it was legally changed... after a few weeks I called the board and they sent me a new one...
I have yet to go to DMV tho--

I'm an attorney. I hyphenated my name for everything, except my bar license. So, my SS card, paychecks, bank accounts, driver's license etc. are all with my hyphenated name, but I can only practice law under my maiden name.
You MUST practice law under the name that you used when you were admitted to the bar regardless of what name is on your ss card etc. If you want to change your name for the practice of law you have to contact the appellate division where you were admitted, and officialy change your name there.
