- you think your guests noticed most? I want to make something stand out on our day. What little extras did you do that people commented on... maybe good or bad?

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
I totally agree with Niecey's post that a wedding should also reflect the bride and groom's personality. For example on the little things... I love teddy bears and threw out the tradition of a cake top but opt for a mini bride and groom teddy bear also it costs less than a normal cake topper. For the seating cards, all names and table numbers were printed on clear Avery address labels and put on the seating cards. I refuse to hand write 150 seating cards but it looked neat and organized since I'm meticulously organized.

It's nice that people notice the little things. Sometimes they tend to overlook them. At my wedding, people commented on the whole picture but I guess it was a sum of all the little things put together. Overall they commented on how elegant everything seemed and how in love/happy my husband and I were that day.

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
Most of the details that we got compliments and comments on were:
The personal and heart-warming atmosphere of our ceremony. (My priest was a friend of my family's, so it made a difference in the emotion and 'feel' of our ceremony).
The incredible view of Long Island Sound that our reception had, and the location - most people that attended had never been there for a wedding before.
The design of our wedding cake - we had an ice blue colored cake with white fondant seashells. Very unorthodox for a wedding cake, but extremely memorable.
The table 'story' cards that we made about our relationship. The tables were named after cities we had traveled to together. Many guests actually traded table cards in order to read more about us.
The napkin rings and centerpieces that we made w/seashells to also reflect the theme.
But most of all - the look of pure happiness and true love that was on our faces ALL DAY long.

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
jcn - (and mv!) Here are some pics of the little details I worked on, where I tied in the Fall theme:
Placecards (hand written with burnt-orange ink)
Programs: (harvesty-type pic on front!)
BM dress color and bouquets in fall colors:
Rose petal basket: It's hard to tell in this pic, but I decorated the basket with fall silk flowers from Michaels
My centerpieces: it's a little hard to see but they're grapevine wreaths decorated with leaves, berries, mini gourds, etc Also, I named all the tables fall-related things: sunflower, harvest, autumn, bayberry, etc.

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
One surprising thing that people commented about positively was that they felt our ceremony was great becuase it was so short and how it was all about us and the 'good stuff'... I dont know but I was really surprised to hear that since I figured a lot of people would have liked us to have a full mass.
Teri: Everytime I see your BM bouquets Im reminded how awesome they looked! They were just amazing looking!

Thanks Stacey and Stef!
Stef - good point - guests said that to me too. Our ceremony was about 25 mins long which was perfect - long enough to be meaningful and sweet, but not drawn out and boring! It was just perfect

I got a lot of compliments on the short but sweet ceremony, CB, the music, and just the fact that everone had a wonderful time.

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
Many people commented on the string quartet we had at church - no organ music, and my Children's Choir sang at our wedding mass too, so that was quite different.
Many comments on the food and band, and we did a traditional Polish custom (DH is half-Polish) of bread, wine, salt, and half-dollar coin.
We did not have boquet/garter toss, but instead we had each of our parents wedding songs played for them and they danced to that. My parents especially loved theirs - it was 'More' and our band played a swing version of it that went over quite well.
We also named our tables after Tom Petty songs (DH is a huge Petty fan), and DH's band got up and played a tune in the middle of the reception.
As a matter of fact, we were on the dance floor for most of the evening, and we did have a great time. People are still telling us what a great time they had at our wedding, so I would have to agree with Stef on that point as well.

Wow Teri - everything looks beautiful! We are doing a ceremony also and have been meeting with priest so that he can see us and incorporate personal things into the ceremony. I like those ideas....

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
a lot of people loved the food and the reception, and commented on that. They also liked the poem I put on the card table set up with bride/groom bears that wear made for me. They also liked the favors. I gave tree seedlings.

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
Thanks Teri! It's gorgeous!!!! I love the color of the BM dresses too. I almost picked the same dress! Mom didn't like the platinum- so I got champagne Which will look great w/ the fall flowers I'm getting! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
mv - Thanks! I looked at the platinum color, which was a little darker - my BM color was mocha, which matched well with my other colors. Champagne works great too!

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
Terri - I thought of naming my tables also, like oak, maple, spruce, etc - but my MOH thinks that people will get lost looking for their table since they're not in # order... did you find that?

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
JCN - we named our tables too, and have been to many wedding that have named tables. We have fun looking around at where the table could be.
In my experience, when tables are numbered, they don't go in number order either. Table 5 is usually not next to table 6. It all depends on your hall's set-up.

Re: Newlyweds - what are the little things....
Jcn - I was more worried about the hall's staff being confused by the table names, but they said it was fine. I only had 12 tables, so the room wasn't huge to begin with, and I made my table name signs large enough so that everyone could read them from far enough away.
