Non-Turkey Thanksgiving

So this will be my 4th yr hosting Thanksgiving. I LOOOOVE Thanksgiving. Every year I have my ILs over, my parents, and some friends.
My ILs are from El Salvador so their tastes are a little different. We always have 2 Turkeys. DH's godmother makes a Salvadorian Turkey and I make a Traditional one. Then we have all sorts of different sides, both traditional and spanish.
My question is, what is another meat dish that I can make to add into the mix?
Oh and BTW, please do NOT say ham.. I don't eat it!!

TIA

Re: Non-Turkey Thanksgiving

Is all pork no good? Cause pernile is yummy and it's a spanish dish so it would work nicely with the other spanish sides you have.

Sorry, spelt it wrong it's pernil but anyway here is a recipe. Just make sure you cook it with the fat side up so the fat runs through the whole thing while it's cooking.

Pernil is a Puerto Rican style roast pork shoulder flavored and marinated with garlic and sofrito although there are several variations on the traditional recipe. Pernil is slow cooked and is often served during the holidays like Christmas and New Year's Day.

To make pernil, you'll need a pork shoulder (usually sold between 8 and 10 pounds), a lot of garlic, adobo black pepper, olive oil and oregano. Most traditional Puerto Rican recipes for pernil use for Sofrito, Sazon, Adobo and a little vinegar. Adobo is a powdered seasoning that includes garlic, oregano and other spices. Sazon is a flavoring that includes cilantro, achiote, garlic and salt, it is usually sold in little orange packets (by Goya). Sofrito is a sauce that can be made or store-bought. It includes a puree of peppers, tomato, onions, cilantro and garlic.

Pernil is cooked in an oven at about 350 degrees. The cut of pork is is seasoned with a paste made from the above ingredients and mixed with the olive oil. To get the flavor into the pernil, you'll need to cut some deep slits into the meat. Next, add the paste into these cuts. Cover the roast with aluminum foil, except for the last 20 minutes or so. The roast should be cooked for about four hours. By taking off the tin foil towards the end of roasting, the 'skin' will be crunchy. This page links to recipes and instructions for cooking a mouth watering pernil.http://www.elboricua.com/pernil_RChef.html1

Re: Non-Turkey Thanksgiving

You could make some kind of a roast? Pork? Beef? Lamb?

You could also go with fish and make a salmon or a tuna steak.

This sounds like heaven. I may have to look it up and save to my recipe box. Keep me posted on how it is.

Re: Non-Turkey Thanksgiving UPDATE!

UPDATE:

I ****** it up and bought a friggen ham. If I'm the only one who doesn't like it, why should everyone else suffer. And to be honest I haven't had it in years, so maybe ill like it

I bought a spiral sliced ham and am going to make a homemade maple glaze.

Thank u all for ur advice! I'm def going to make a pernil one day and that bacon wrapped pork loin sounds delish! And ONE day in my lifetime I will attempt a beef wellington.
