Not only is he a pack rat, he puts nothing in place

Not only is he a pack rat, he puts nothing in place

I am off this week so I see my DH getting ready in the morning and he is always scrambling for something. He never puts anything away. He has a big meeting today so he is getting into his 'special' suit. He has asked me for about 5 things already this morning. He wants to know where his t-shirts are, his cuff links, his black tie. UGH, if he would just put everything back where it belongs, he would not have this problem. He just called me from the bedroom telling me he really needs my help finding a specific tie he wants to wear. Well if he only put them back on the tie rack that I bought for him, he would not have this problem. I am very organized and have a place for everything.

Anyone else have a disorganized husband?

OMG - welcome to my world!!!! the man can put NOTHING away!! even after i do laundry, his sits in the laundry basket on the floor on the guest room for WEEKS!!! i get my basket back, only after he has worn everything that was in the basket to begin with!!!! and then we start the cycle again!!

i love him to death, but the man never learned how to use a hamper, close a cabinet door, or put something back in the frig!!

My DH is not extremely messy but neither is he meticulously organized like I am. I'm in charge of the organization in our home as I've gotten so used to it by now. Thankfully, he is not the pack rat in our marriage but I am. It's one thing to be a messy pack rat but to be a meticulous pack rat is better at least there is no disorganization. Sometimes I feel like a maid or his mother rather than his wife. I had a talk with him about his disorganization which he somewhat changed.

However, one cannot expect a person to completely change as there are things in life that cannot be changed. Sadly, there are some things in life that one must accept.

Speak to your DH about his disorganization. Maybe on a rainy day the two of you stay in and organize the closet so that there's a place for everything. It's a great way to spend quality time together. Good luck.

Re: Not only is he a pack rat, he puts nothing in place

Welcome to my world

While is not so much of a pack rat (I am trying to reform him) he puts nearly nothing in the right place.

The last few times I did laundry I found his wallet, cash ($31 - woo hoo!!) and cold medicine (in those foil wraps) in the dryer. His cell phone battery narrowly escaped the washing machine last night.

Once a week he loses his wedding band because he lives it on a table and the cat gets to it.

He stashes crap everywhere and rarely in a place logical to me so he will pick up another of what ever it is and then I'll open the cabinet and bathroom, smack my forehead and say now why didn't I look here for those extra batteries I am exaggeratting but not by too much.

I thought I was the only one living like this!!! DH's a total packrat. He still has his first baseball uniform and old report cards. Fortunately, he rented space in a storage facility. But he still has tons and tons of papers that he 'goes through'. For me, if a paper's not read in a week, it goes right in the trash. He's big into family history, so there's tons of pictures to 'go through' in the spare room. They're all over the desk in no order at all. And the laundry..... Something on the floor means nothing to me. Is it clean or dirty?? I told him if it's not in the hamper it doesn't get washed!!

I think we should form a support group for wives of packrats and the unorganized!!

yes i find open cabinets, milk and soda left on the counter..... in the AM when he is getting dressed i hear 'where are my shoes? where is my belt? do you know what i did with my pager?'

I tell him 'If you put it in the same spot every night you would know!'

Yea thats my DH too. When he comes into our house, is coat is left on the couch even though the closet is right next to him, his shoes are off and left in the living room, his mail is EVERYWHERE. Belts left all over, he leaves magazines in the 'libarary'. He leaves his plates on the side of the sink. Every morning I find a glass in our bedroom and the computer room and in the basement. His Mother spoiled him, I'm trying so hard to break him out of it
