Now that its over, what is the one thing you would have NOT done for your wedding

Now that its over, what is the one thing you would have NOT done for your wedding

Lets face it....there are very few of us who were not on some kind of budget in planning our wedding. Now that it is over, what is the one thing that in hindsight, was extraneous and you would do differently now to cut back on cost?

For me, it would be my wedding album. I never would have picked a photography pkg. with an album!
At the time I thought....'why would I bother with a photographer at all if I'm not going to get an album?'
But I just finished making my grandmother's album.....out of all of our proofs. When I look through the 400+ proofs, its like re-living the wedding! A lot better than the stingy 50 photos that are in my formal album.

I also would have put my foot down and not allowed MIL to invite all of her friends, who have no bearing on our lives whatsoever. It annoys me to see these strangers in our photos.

I agree about the album thing... I don't even care about it! I'd rather just have proofs & that's it!
Can't think of anything else I would have skipped...

There isnt anything for us, we set a budget and pretty much stuck to it. There were certain things I refused to spend money on but they were things like slipper baskets, bathroom baskets, etc.

I wish I would have not spent so much time on the bathroom basket.

you girls are making me feel much better about not buying an album I blew a TON on the photography package, and got only proofs and a few enlargements..... DH bought me a pretty wedding album so I could DIY it.

For our cost cutting retrospective, I probably would have reduced the limo charges to be a pick-up / drop off from the church to the hall, since its only 4 blocks apart with our apartment at the midpoint!

to pay for 4 hours of limo to ride for 4 min in total KILLED ME
however, since it did drizzle in the morning, I was relieved that we had a car.... I was initially debating walking........

we did pretty good w/ our budget......so I wouldn't actually say there was anything I would have not done (although I regret paying our DJ as much as we did, since the MC wasn't so great at MC'ing).....but one thing I would've actually SPENT $$ on in hindsight is adding an extra hour to the reception!!! I was just starting to finally relax & have fun after the cake cutting, I felt like I only got in 45 minutes of dancing!!! I seriously could've used that extra hour!

i hear ya about the extra hour... i felt like the reception was too short... but the time i was ready to have fun and start to dance it was over!!

We did pretty well as far as budgeting was concerned, but I think I would've re-thought the whole limo thing more. We had two Escalade limos because MIL said she wanted her whole family to ride in one too (which I didn't agree with). Ummm...yeah....she had NO family ride in it...after the ceremony it was her in that huge limo by herself!

I wish I didn't spend so much time and money making programs..since no one paid attention to them...and left them on the tables....and I wish I had taken pictures in the house getting ready.....also I should have followed the tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding...my goddess...I have such a long list...

I wouldn't have gotten an album from my photographer either. Although, at this point it doesn't look like I'm going to have to worry too much about ever seeing that album

Other than that, we did excellent with our budget.

My centerpeices, I chose them to save money on flowers. While, I think I did save some money on them, I think I could have done something else and saved even more.

I would not have a DOC
I would not have 5 bridesmaids & ushers. I would instead have had just a MOH & BM

I would not have to agreed to a 'rehearsal' dinner that my MIL threw and we didnt even have a rehearsal. It was just DH's family there and they all got plastered and wasted plus that the next day on OUR WEDDING they were like zombies and bums. Some didnt go to bed until 4AM. Our wedding was at 1:30 (pics at 11). Didnt want to dance, take pics, or anything. What a waste and embarrassment. Aren't you supposed to get wasted the day of wedding. Go figure.

I would have kept everything exactly as it was!

ETA - except I would have used a different limo company!

i would have chosen a different DJ. not bc he was too pricey, but bc he had a major attitude and then didnt even show up on the day of my wedding!! the guy he sent was ok but he majorly screwed up our intro.

i would've decided NOT to get a limo bus. we had a 40 passenger limo bus to take the bridal party, bridal party's significant others, parents, grandparents, random cousins from Medford to Bayville and while it was a great way to transport everyone, the few of us prone to motion sickness had a rough time on the way home from the wedding. . .if it wasn't for that though, it would've been a great idea!

I wouldn't have spent so much time on some of the DIY projects, like the programs. Barely anyone took them. I also would have put my foot down with my MIL and would have gone with real CPs the way I wanted them. I wanted really full CPs made up of hydrangea and calla lilies. She did something so far from what I wanted, but I let her run witht hem because everyone who saw them said they were beautiful. But when I walked into the room, I wish I had really full CPs.
