Now that you're married- will you still acknowledge your 'dating' anniversary?
Sooooooo according to DH he doesn't even want to acknowledge our dating anniversary now that we're married.......which btw, I didn't bring it up b/c I intend to celebrate it or exchange gifts or anything, but I guess to just spend time together on that day is what I'm looking for. My bonehead husband wants to go upstate this weekend by himself to go bow hunting (which I hate!).....I can't go w/ him, b/c I have a shower to go to.....my argument with him is that I wanted to just hang out together on Sunday at least just spending time together, especially since the next day is our 1 month mark (yes I know I'm a dork! lol). Am I crazy here??? I don't know why I'm feeling so very emotional today!! I'm depressed and feeling lonely I usually don't get like this, but I think maybe it's b/c I'm also feeling a little overwhelmed at work......I'm just exhausted on all levels lately.
Sorry about my long vent, but down to my question- do you plan on acknowledging your dating anniversary? do you think you'd celebrate it? or just make mention of it or something?
thanks for hearing me out
ETA- btw, we had NEVER really celebrated (as in going out, giving gifts etc.) our dating anniversary even when we were dating....but for me, it's just always kind of been expected that we'd at least be in each others presence on that date (even while dating).
ETA- (again lol)- I found out DH will be working nights next week- 10/15 through 10/19- 6PM to 2AM.......so if he goes upstate tomorrow, I won't actually see him until my friend Mimi's wedding next Saturday

I am very attached to dates...but DH (and it seems many men, are NOT)....DH always tells me...it's just another day....then he'll add something like 'everyday is like an anniversary with you..' (with a silly grin)...i have learned to just accept that we see these things differently and tell him that we at least need a nice date nite around the time...it doesn't have to be that specific day...i know how you feel though...

Nope. We didn't even acknowledge it when we were dating. It was on Christmas Eve so we never remembered.

yea that's actually the one that would be this weekend- we met on 10/13/00 (on a Friday the 13th no less!)....but actually we were both pretty drunk and can't remember if it was after midnight or not (making it the 14th! I actually have always had more regard for the date we first met than when we first started 'dating' (which was about 9 mths later). I guess that's why I'm feeling so down about it.

I'm sure we'll acknowledge it, but we won't make the stink over it like we used to!

yes b/c we got married by a JOP on our dating anniversary-- we planned it that way so we wouldn't have a million dates going on. so, we celebrate that and 9/9.

DH and I were rarely together on our dating anniversary due to circumstances, so I don;t feel particularly attached to it.
One year, I was still in college, he was in grad school. The next year he was at a conference, etc.
If he's going to be mad about it, dont force the issue. You have a whole new anniversary now, one thats much more important.

I am also very attached to dates. We wont 'celebrate' like we used to but probably just dinner-make it a day for us to spend time together.

i don't know if we'll continue to celebrate on a yearly basis (in fact, i'll be in NY for what will be out 6th dating anniversary next year), but i imagine we'll at least do something when we hit a 'big' number, like 10 yrs together, or something.

Sort of - its 2 days before our wedding anniversary, so we will really be celebrating both at the same time

I'm sure we'll pop a bottle of wine or go out to a nice dinner, but that's really it.. no gifts or anything like that!

Helen, I'm in the same boat!! DH always jokes - 'So how many anniversaries are we gonna have here?' Dating, engagement, wedding? I'd like to acknowledge it though, at least with a dinner or something. It's a very special day!
I'm sorry you're feeling emotional Helen! I'm sure it's a combination of a lot of things...and it's perfectly normal. This is important to you!

Ours is about two weeks after our wedding date, so no we're not. DH did mention it though and we had a nice dinner.
