NWQOTD 11/17

Good morning ladies! I hope this Tuesday is a happy one for you! This question is inspired by something that happened at work yesterday. We were talking with the kids about ways to help others this holiday season. Some kids were talking about volunteering, some were talking about cleaning their rooms and it got me thinking that I need to do more to show that I am thankful and help others that are less fortunate than me. My question to you is, what do you/could you/would you like to do this season (and always!) to be helpful or to be a good person?

We got quite a bit of things for the food drive at church and for the animal shelter. I think I spent just as much money on that as I did on DH's Christmas presents.

Hmm

Every year, i help run the pantry/food drive, the slipper drive, the pajama drive and the sock drive ...

Last year we worked in the soup kitchen which was wonderful. You don't realize how lucky you are until you see little children asking for soup in messy clothes.

And during lent, instead of giving something up, I usually will give something to someone else. Like, donate my clothes, or to a charity because I would rather help someone during that time rather than withdraw from myself lol

Trying tot hink of what else....

Me too...DH & I have talked about it for a few years now about dressing up as Mr & Mrs Claus & bringing toys to the children in the cancer wards in several hopsitals in the area...just working on getting the costumes & also permissions from the hospitals...dont know if this will be the year - but hopefully next for sure!

We also do the food drive at our local Stop & Shop every Thanksgiving.

I volunteer alot through my job.. I did habitat for humanity, a beach cleanup one earth day, and this past halloween I volunteered at a childrens hospital to take them trick or treating around the floor.

I just got an email for my volunteer opportunities for this christmas season but haven't picked what I am going to do yet

I always donate clothes and food. I also always donate my old books that I'm done with. I either donate them to a local library or I bring them to the local senior citizen home so the people there have some newer books to read.

We do things in my school like a canned food drive and the post office Santa thing but I feel like I should do more. We're so fortunate to have what we have...I have to start thinking of possible volunteer ideas.

I would volunteer at the suicide hotline. I did it years ago and I always say I want to do it again, but never make the time
During the holiday season depression/suicide rates go up, the hotline is really in need of volunteers. People sometimes just need someone to talk to, it really helps save lives.

My kids perform twice in December at local nursing homes. The elderly people love to see the kids perform and then after I make the girls interact and talk with them b/c some of them can be so lonely.

I'm a crazy person and if I go out and what I'm wearing is photographed, I usually try not to rewear it. So a lot of my stuff is only worn once and I feel bad so I always donate them.

That's wonderful. Could you FM me more info on that? That is something I would like to do as it is a matter very near to my heart.
