I am sitting here watching a replay of Oprah and Michael Jackson is on. Tomorrow marks the anniversary of his death.
Do you remember where you were when you heard the news???
DO you think that this is like the JFK assination of our generation???
What about September 11,2001???? Do you remember where you were that day??? What were you doing??

Sept 11...I was in ballet class during my sophomore year of college and I came out and went to the store on campus to get something to eat and people were glued to the TV and crying....I couldn't leave campus b/c the highway was closed going towards the city so I had to spend the night at my best friends dorm.
I was online I think when I heard about MJ
But the craziest one for me was Patrick Swayze. I BAWLED CRYING like if he was my friend. I was and am still kinda sad that he died. I was such a big fan.

We heard the news of Michael Jackson's death while we were in the car sitting in traffic on our way to our rehearsal dinner. We heard that he had caridac arrest first and then moments later, hear dhe passed.
I do think this is somewhat equivalent to the JFK assination. Michael Jackson was an icon. Whether or not you are a fan. He is an icon.
As far as 9/11.... I was working at a day care at the time. I was on my way to work when I heard about the first tower. At work we all had the radio on and after the 2nd tower was hit and it was declared a terrorist attack, parents began to pick up their kids early.
I will never forget the father of one of the kids. he showed up in his fireman's uniform and he was covered in soot. And his face was all flushed. When he saw his son, he welled up. It was so emotional. I will never forget that.
ugh... i didnt mean to make this a depressing post!!!

I remember reading about Michael Jackson's death online when I got home from my summer class and it was ironic because my professor alwaysss made fun of MJ and would be like 'Would you rather be killed by Achilles or killed by Michael Jackson?' to prove his points on heroism lol. And that day, he happened to be making fun of MJ a lot so when I came home from class, my professor was the first person I thought of lol.
September 11th.. I was in 8th grade (I'm a youngin) and I was walking to 6th period math when I saw my best friend's brother & his girlfriend signing her out of school and I was like 'whats going on?' and he was like 'Come with us' and he explained what was going on. They were my neighbors so I went home and my dad & older sister were home and I watched the second plane hit... and then my sister had to bring me back to school to legit sign me out since I had just left... then we went back home and stayed with my dad.

Yes i was driving to work early morning & heard the news.
I DO NOT think its like the JFK assasination not even close. As MJ was not killed in a horrffic death. He was a drug addict & usually paid hi sdr. to administer shots for him. While the Dr is just liek a drug dealer it is NOT an assasination. Its more like th Elvis of our generation.
As for 9/11 I remember it all too well. It is something i will never ever forget. Images & fear are forever burned into my mind. Its hard to think about it. I was right there in the thick of it. While i wasnt in tehtowers i worked only a mile away at that point. And all i can say is its not something i wish on anyone. It was just horrible.

I saw everyone's status on FB I just remember that and the next day we had a fellow LIwed gal's wedding to go to and there was alot of talk about it. Thats all I have to say about Michael.
9/11 I was at work and we had no radio or tv on being in the classroom. Someone had told us a plane hit somewhere in the city and the next thing you know we got hold of a radio and just listened to everything, it was scary. I ran to get my son out of school, the next town over and it took me 1 1/2 hrs to get him aand get back to work, traffic was horrible. Then I left work early and just sat on our couch watching the news.

For MJ I was outside my house taking pictures of my sister and her friends before their senior prom.
9/11 I was in school, I was a junior and in math class. They came over the loud speaker and told us what was going on. When I got home from school my dad was a nervous wreck. He told me not to leave the house.

I was in the Dr.s office when I heard about Michael Jackson~there was a girl talking on her cell phone about it and I was shocked!!
And for Sept. 11, I was unemployed at the time, so I was home sleeping and was woken by my mother telling me she couldn't believe a plane hit the twin towers on such a beautiful clear day~what an accident...Then the 2nd plane hit and we knew it was no accident

When I heard about michael jackson I was actually at a softball game and we heard from someone...I was confused as to how I felt cause as a kid I looooved him so much but over the years he just creeped me out
As for sept 11th...I was just about to leave for work and when it happened my whole world stopped...my brother works in the city,I had friends who did and one of our gm actually worked in the towers....we had a relative,a firefighter who lost his life,my sisters boss lost her daughter and a friend who lost a uncle...it really changed a lot of how I saw the world and how things can change in a heartbeat...
The two things I will never forget is how where we live you could smell the fire and the ash even from queens and we had smoke for days....and how that night it rained and as I sat with my family on our stoop with candles just crying,my mom said to us...god is crying with us all

I do not think Michael Jackson compares to Kennedy. I wouldn't have even realized it was close to a year ago if the radio wasn't playing his songs. I have no idea where I was and I wasn't very surprised given his history.
However I think 9-11 was like Kennedy or even more like Pearl Harbor, but it was that thing you remember the whole day it happened. I was in college in PA. It was the middle of pledge week and since I was VP Member Development I was in charge of the pledges. The night before they had pulled a prank on DH's roommate at Phi Psi and stolen all his soap (a germ freak). Retaliating the Phi Psi pledges stole our cable. I was woken up by my roommate upset because our cable was gone and she wanted to see what was going on. Luckily they missed the upstairs splitters so we were able to get one TV hooked up. I remember going to art history right after the plane crashed in PA. We had no idea if it was over and we were sitting there learning about the pyramids. I couldn't believe she was teaching. Later in the day my History teacher sent us home. He said History was in the making we should be watching that.
More strange was the feeling of not being able to talk to or get to my parents. Communication through NY was down and the bridges were all shut. That was very creepy. I was seriously panicked, I was so freaked out.

MJ - I was in Penn Station waiting for my train home and my mom called to tell me.
9/11 I was at college in Binghamton and my roommate had left the night before for her grandfather's funeral. I woke up a few minutes before my alarm so I got up and got dressed. As was my routine I was drinking some tea and reading the news online before class. Some of you might remember AIM had a news ticker, and that's what I used as a source. The story was very muddled at first and had some misinformation. A plane hit the WTC, the White House was on fire.... It was time to go to class and just before I left my room the phone rang. My mom had been watching on tv so she had more information and she was crying and very scared to be alone. Eventually my brother was released from high school and my Dad came home - he works in the Bronx.
I went to class and sat with my friend. On the way to class was probably when the towers fell. The professor didn't say anything and just taught a lesson as usual. She had a commute from Ithaca and may not have been listening to the news. My friend was fidgeting and kept looking at his phone. (This was before smart phones!) When we left class, the Lecture Hall was empty. We read a notice on a bulletin board that all classes were canceled due to the terrorist attack. I spent the day with my boyfriend (now husband) watching the news and asking people if their families were ok. My uncle is a NYC firefighter, but he was not in NYC at the time. He was on the recovery crew but wasn't there before the towers fell. That night there was a candlelit vigil on the quad and a non denominational prayer service.
