***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
Morning ladies. Warning - this is DH's stream of consciousness questioning. So DH is dying to know...____________________________________
When did you first move in together? Was there an adjustment period or was it instantaneous bliss? What do you answer when people ask you, 'So, how's married life'? Why do people keep telling me 'the first year of married life is the hardest?' I feel like this is so much easier than the engagement - is this bc we lived together first??
____________________________________
We first moved in together on august 1st, 2 years ago. there was definitely an adjustment period, in fact, I thought I'd come home one day and all my shizz would be on the front lawn lol. he was so used to being alone, so even after 6 years of dating, it was still hard.
when people ask how married life is, my answer is 'the same'!

we moved in together 3 years ago (after 4 years of dating). It was a year after we graduated from college. I think it went pretty smoothly...no major adjustments.I always say 'same' when people have asked me how married life is. I don't really feel like anything has changed.

We moved into our first apartment together on December 1, 2006. There was definitely an adjustment period. I had to learn to live with the fact that my DH leaves his sh!t everywhere!!!! I'm constantly picking up after him its ridiculous. But since its been almost 4 years and we're in our second place together, my answer to people is the same as yours, Elizabeth: 'no different!'

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
We moved in together when we got married. Mad old school like that. I dunno, I just always told myself that I wouldn't live with someone until we were married. It's one of the only traditional things about me, I guess. So we've been living together for, oh...just under seven weeks.I dig it! It's definitely an adjustment: I lived on my own, no roommates and Neel did the same. For years, both of us lived alone. So having someone else ALWAYS there is new. And one of my friends said 'you'll get to a point where you realize that you can sit in the bathroom for twenty minutes and read a book JUST BECAUSE you can close the door and be alone for awhile'...which hasn't happened yet, though I'm sure it will.
He does his thing, and I do mine. He plays guitar and records things, and I'll be out at the gym or cooking. I definitely love cooking for two.
The biggest adjustment has been the cats. He has two and I have one. They're getting along better and better, but in the beginning I seriously thought that it was going to be a failure, having all of them under one roof.
I can't really answer his last part, since we didn't live together until now. But the stress of the wedding is gone, and that's grounds for celebration.
ETA: When people ask how married life is, I tell them that they should come up with a more original question.

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
Well we lived together for 3 years before getting married so we were used to it. We did have to make adjustments, but just little things- schedules, dividing up chores, getting used to not having people over like every night. The hardest adjustment we've had since being married are merging our finances. This is made more difficult by the fact that DH works off the books. The thought of next year's taxes already gives me anxiety. When people ask me how married life is my answer always is 'Same as it ever was.' My recently engaged co-worker hates that I say this. She says there must be something different. I tell her I have another ring on my finger.

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
we first moved in together 5 years ago August 1st. I was basically already living at DH's parents house before we moved in together, so it wasn't TOO much an adjustment. the only thing we had to adjust on was waking up pretty much at the same time and shower times, but that quickly changed with new hours at work for both of us.

i think ill start doing this too. whenever they ask me that, i either say great or the same. cuz its the same but its better cuz we dont have a wedding hanging over our head.
as for moving in, DH lived with his parents b4 so he would sleep over on the weekends. slowly he moved in until we made it official. so there was not really an adjustment period since it was so gradual. im so happy we did it that way. i dont think i would have to deal with a brand new stress. he's learned how to cook and clean since living together (2 years) so that was really big!

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
We moved in together a year after we started dating. We actually had our offer accepted on our co-op at 10 months but it took awhile to get everything in order. There was really no adjustment period at all. I'm still waiting for us to bicker about living together, after over two years!I don't feel anything has changed. DH and I have been inseparable since we met and have always had a really healthy, loving relationship ... both before and after we tied the knot!

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
We moved in together a month or 2 after we got engaged.... It took a little getting used to... Being used to sleeping by yourself is completely diff from trying to share a queen size bed with a man who takes over most of the bed and the covers
New adjustment period came when we were buying/bought a house... We fought all the time in the beginning... Its such a stressful process... And we made sure to upgrade to a king size bed
Marriage is different if you ask me... I didnt think so in the very beginning, but it is... we feel more like a team than ever before...

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
We moved in together in January of 2006, just shy of dating 6 years. There was some getting used to the little things (DH loves taking long shower - I don't, I hate clothes on the floor - DH always leaves clothes on the floor.) but nothing that we couldn't handle. Our first year of living together was hard because DHs dad was very sick, in & out of the hospital & then he passed away in January of 2007.
I say; married life is the same as before we where married, with the difference being we have more money (not saving for the wedding) & less stress (not planning the wedding).

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
We didn't live together until we got married! I lived alone for 17 years (no roomies) and DH lived with his grandfather. There was and still is an adjustment period - even though DH practically lived at my apt - he went home every couple of nights. We were both used to being by ourselves. However, when people ask how married life is, my response is always - 'Great! A lot of work but so worth it!' That's the truth. I think it's a lot of work for two people who are used to being by themselves but the benefits and rewards of being with my DH are AMAZING and totally worth it.

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
I was very traditional in that I always said I would not want to live with someone until we were atlealst engaged. I also had ownded my co-op (where I lived when we started dated) and did not want someone making any claims to a property I 'owned' with out a real commitment. DH used to stay over alot, but he always brought a bag. I sold my co-op and bought the hosue about 8 months before we got engaged... he did not contribute, b/c i said i sold my place to buy it and it was mine (not cause he didn't want to). I had too much invested and said he could not live there until we got engaged.... so that's when he moved in.... engaged 7/22/09... slowly moved in after. but he slept over everynight once i had the house... just went home/ate home/ laundry at home until he moved in!ETA:
I say 'the same' since we have lived together a year now!

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
We moved in together on Black Friday in 2008, so its been almost 2 years. It was def an adjustment because he's a neat freak and totally OCD and I... am not lol. He still gets on me about putting my shoes in the closet AS SOON as I walk in the door. Why can I not take one step into our apartment and just leave them on the floor for 10 seconds? I do not know, and I never will. But they must be placed immediately into the closet. It's like I'm the messy guy and he's the uptight, way too clean girl lol. Married life is def the same though - nothing's changed at all in our relationship.

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
We have been living together for about 5 years now. We were living together for 2 years when we got engaged and then another 2 for the engagement time period. There was a big adjustment period... it lasted a little over a year. We also had some things to sort through during that time... it made our relationship very rocky. But once we got through it all... we became stronger than ever before. so all in all.. i suppose going through all that crap was necessary to get to the place we are in now.
After being married... there wasn't an adjustment phase for moving in together.... or for being married. But we were dealt a new hand of cards when I became pregnant on the HM and then to have a MC a few months later. So there was still a lot to go through... just nothing that really stemmed from getting married.
I think all in all.. throughout the course of the relationship you will always have these test phases where things are out of your control and there are just hard times to get through. Being married or not married.
I think living together first or not... you will have trials and tribulations to go through regardless... and I almost expect that to happen every few years or so. It's just a part of life.
I will also say that... before we moved in together I didn't want to do so until we were at the very least engaged. I gave in and we moved in together anyway. I don't regret it. I think things had to happen in the order they did for us. Sometimes I almost miss the newness of moving in togehter and kind of wish it occured with the newness of being married. But all in all... whichever way it works out is fine with me.

Re: ***NWQOTD Friday 8/6/10*** brought to you by my DH
we moved in together in may of 2009... so a little over a year ago. we'd been dating for 3 1/2 years and had been out of college and living apart for almost a year and it suckked. we were ready to live together but i moved in with him and his 2 roommate friends. by the end, i hated it but that's bc i couldn't stand living with his friends
we have our own house now and it's awesome!!! everyone keeps asking me if it feels different or how it feels to be married, etc and i just keep saying it's no different... bc it's really not! i feel like people always ask that bc that's the 'normal' thing to say. people never used to live together before they were married so it probably actually used to be really different right after you got married and moved in
