NWQOTD-Thursday

This week Ive been planning my little man's 5th birthday party that is on sunday. Well yesterday DH says, 'I dont know why we always have these big parties...my mom never had parties for us'...WHAT????

Birthdays and holidays have ALWAYS been really important in my family. My mom always went all out...even if it was just a party at home. We always had tons of people and lots of great food. I cant understand why anyone wouldnt celebrate their kids' birthdays?? DH is very distant on holidays and celebrations and now I know why. Im always so excited...I love party planning and he absolutly loathes it.

Do you ladies know anybody like this? Does your DH enjoy the holidays and special occasions as much as you?

DH is not into all the parties like my family is. Its completely understandable though. DH is an only child so growing up his was the only kid party & then in January his dads birthday & then in July his moms. In my family, I have a brother & a sister, & my brother has three kids. My mom makes a big dinner for everyones birthday on the Sunday closest to their birthday. Then my brother & SIL have parties for their kids & their friends. Also know a lot of our friends have kids so we attend lots of birthday parties.
Some times I even think enough is enough. DH has already said that he would prefer if we didn't always go all out crazy when we have kids. Since we are not even planning on having kids yet, I am not going to fight with him. I am sure that when we have our own kids he will change his mind.

I don't think anyone can love the holidays and planning parties as much as I do but DH definitely enjoys celebrating the holidays with our families and seeing everyone on birthdays.

Ive never had a birthday party, graduation party or anything like that until I graduated from law school and then of course my wedding.

Im not really a big bash kind of person. I'd rather hang out in my backyard with a few friends and some beers.

Yes we are both from families that always had family over & huge parties for everything. Shoot Sunday Italian dinner at 2pm at my house every Sunday was a party alone. 30/40 people every time. lol

BTW me & my sisters & our Dh's definitely enjoy carrying on these traditions.

my DH is kinda like that too. in my family bday esp are a huge deal and for his family its usually just the immediate family.
also in my family ppl start calling u on the day of someone's bday to remind u to call that person, my last bday DH didnt even mention my bday was the next day when we came over his mom's house
they def G2G for those occasions but they dont make a big deal about it like we do

I love to make a big deal about birthdays and have made a big deal about DH's birthday since we've started dating and he hates it. I usually do something for 3 days in a row for him and it drives him nuts, which makes it soo much more fun for me . He definitely doesn't do the same, he doesn't understand the excitement that I get out of birthdays.

I get more excited and do more for birthdays than for the holidays, DH could careless about any of it

DH hates birthdays, especially his.

I am the birthday QUEEN.

Luckily for him we met right after my 24th birthday, or else he would have probably dumped me because I get insane during my birth month.

I've slowly gotten him to appreciate his birthday and he understands how important they are to me ... and I know once we have kids he'll let me run wild ... but he's still very, very reserved and slightly hateful of his own! He's turning 30 this year and told me very explicitly he wants no party, no surprises, no fluff. I'm planning a teensy getaway the weekend before but other than that, I am forced to abide, though it PAINS ME.

(For my 30th, I full on expect a party at a rented out space and all of my friends to be in attendance.)

In my family it's the opposite. DH's side of the family has big bashes for everything. I was brought up to believe that parties are an inconvenience to us and to those who we invite...so it's been a challenge. We have a small family, so we'd only have immediate family over for dessert for birthdays, barely anything for major holidays, etc...and I know that once we get a house, I'm going to be expected to entertain a lot, which I don't mind to a degree, but I certainly can't do to the level of DH's family, because it just goes against my grain.

I think DH and I both really like to throw parties. We like to entertain and play host/hostess. As for holidays... I'm not ready for that yet.
