is on right now. Anyone else watch this show and is anyone else creeped out??? They dont seem like they are from a different state, they appear to be from a different planet.

I have seen that show and their previous specials - it just creeps me out too. It's like they are like brainwashed or something. I am all for everyone leading their lives however they want as long as it doesn't harm themselves or others but something about them seems off.

I don't agree with their beliefs at all. However I do respect their lifestyle choice. But I have always said, that they should be adopting. There was another family on that network that had 27 kids, all adopted and with special needs. Last night they had a repeat on their show, the duggers, where they went to the creation science museum. They believe humans and dinosaurs existed at the same period in time. Despite what science tells the world. And now there oldest son, jimbob or something, is married. He was 20 and she was 19. They don't have any real contact with each other until they marry. And did you guys see what those poor kids have to wear as bathing suits??? Yeks! At least they make the boys cover up as much as the girls. Its still a little weird.

i've watched their show since it aired, and as i don't personally agree with their beliefs, i must give them TONS of credit b/c their family is more functional with 17 kids then many families that have 1 or 2 kids. they are more organized that i am and i don't even have any kids! i actually envy their 'simple' life in some ways.

I have to agree. Those kids are extremely well behaved. Seeing them all at a supermarket, each kid knows what they have to do and doesnt act out, and they are just real good. You see other parents with 1 or 2 kids like you said and their kids are going crazy. Even when they came to NYC those kids are just so good. I give her credit for that, bc i cant imagine even having 17 kids and for them to all be well behaved is crazy lol.
It was weird for me when i saw the episode with the oldest son proposing to his gf. They don't even kiss and even for the first kiss they are waiting until after they exchange vows. Obviously i heard of waiting to have sex until marriage but never heard of this before. They cant even be alone and always have to have someone else with them. Definitely not for me but hey its their life and if they are happy then more power to them. They are different but do seem to be good hearted people and a loving family. They also manage their money great, they have alot of rental properties that they make money off of, i know he also used to be a senator or something like that.

Well having two stay at home parents and older kids help a lot! The family supports themselves by renting large commercial properties. So yeah that would be get, not really practical for the rest of us out there.

Yeah definitely not practical for the rest of us but it is great that they have all these properties they rent out. We would all wish for that, but somehow they are able to do it and have a good income it seems.
Even with older kids helping, it can still be a disaster. My parents friends have just 8 kids plus had 1 grandchild at home. The older kids were the worst ones lol so they set a real bad example for the younger ones.

I think its awesome to see how a family like that operates day to day and how the kids really help by actually taking care of each other. They are all so well behaved and respectful to eachother and their parents. The mom is never quick to anger. Anyhow, I can't imagine having that many children...its almost shocking to see such a big family and I think thats why ppl always have a strong reaction to them, but I dont understand the part about being 'weirded out' by them. They seem like a happy fam and theyre deeply convicted as far as their faith. I guess people say mean things about them bc they dont conform to what society says is 'normal.' jmo

no, they're Christians. the backstory is that when they were first married, she was on the BCP. then a few yrs later, they wanted to have kids so she got off the pill, had the baby and then got back on the pill and eventually she had a miscarriage. i believe they felt they miscarried bc she conceived while on the pill. then they just chose not to use any birth control any more and to be open to however many children God wanted them to have, and boy did God give them a quiver full!!
they have a show on TLC called 17 kids and counting.

I watch this once in a while and happened to catch the show where they invite another huge family who they are friends with to visit. I think the other family is Bates and they have 16 kids with another on the way. So that's another family with similar values. and a former co-worker's sister had 13.!
as has been said, you have to give them credit for raising the children well but with all the children out there with no homes, it's a shame they didn't go that route - - at least for some of the family.
