Re: NWR: Animal control/shelter

Last yr my cat squirts who wasn't fixed at the time, escaped from our house and didn't know how to find his way home. He was one block over at this ladies house, trying to get food and to play with her cats (my cat loves other cats, not always the other cats like him.) She did a very noble thing and put fliers out asking anyone if they lost cat. DH and I had fliers up at local stores. Thanks to her our baby is back home safe and sound.

This cat could just be lost, because strays aren't usually friendly, I would at least try putting fliers, describing the cat. There could be some very upset owners looking for him/her.

I agree that if the cat is that friendly then she must be domestic. Strays don't usually trust people or go near them. Putting up fliers is a good idea because someone might be looking for her. Or maybe you could call some local shelters just to find out if anyone is looking for the cat.

Unfortunately, most private shelters won't help with a cat that might even be a little feral. They would have no chance of adopting it out.

The other option, besides fliers, is the local town animal shelter, but they are usually kill-shelters

If no one answers the fliers, you can post an add on CL asking if anyone would like to adopt this cat you found. At least give it a chance to get a good home. I wish you luck! I really hope she is just lost and you find the owners.
