NWR: Netflix?

a client of mine gave DH and I a subscription to netflix as a wedding gift.

DH and I are putting a bunch of movies in our queue. What movies are in your netflix queue or what movies do you recommend?

oooh Funny People - I started watching on the plane on my HM but fell asleep. I'm adding that right now.

500 Days of Summer just arrived today - we haven't watched it yet though.

I am a film buff, I could recommend TONS of films... but what do you like? Romance, Classics, Comedies, Action??? Do you want to watch the movies that were super popular or the films that are artistic genius?

I love Netflix because if you rate movies you like and don't like it will give you recommendations.

My dream would be to teach film history, I love cinema.

I'm a bit of a nerd:

In addition to the sappy romantic comedies and suspense (but not horror) films, I love documentaries. I also love stupid comedies. I'm kind of all over the place.

DH is a horror film and sci-fi fan which he watched either when I'm not home or am in bed because I hate both kinds of those movies.

Re: NWR: Netflix?

I just looked at our list to see what we have gotten and liked, and also what we have coming up.

Eagle Eye didn't think I would like it, but was a very good thriller
The Proposal cute chick flick
Star Trek DH has raved about it. I didn't watch it with him though so can't comment, but he said I would like it, even though I didn't watch the series
Changeling
The Dark Knight
Reservation Road
Breach - very intense, really good
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Hostage - good thriller with Bruce Willis

We also do TV series - Big Love, Sunny in Philadelphia. You could catch up on shows you never saw that are raved about (i.e. Mad Men - we watched first season on DVD and now just watch it when it's on)

Re: NWR: Netflix?

My favorite movies ever... these are film school geek movies

I am going through my DVD collection right now

Some Like It Hot - comedy 1959
Run Lola Run - strange and artsy
William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet - my romantic fix
Rebecca - Hitchcock's look into romance
Chocolat - beautiful romance
Casablanca
Apocalypse Now - action/drama movie, Martin Sheen young, a must see
Breakfast at Tiffanys
Amadeus - Drama
Double Indemnity - Film Noir (I wrote about 10 papers on this movie in my lifetime)
Finding Neverland - Drama
It Happenned One Night - Classic Romance (Clark Gable)
The Sting - Classic kind of mystery/comedy
The Departed - Action

If you like time piece dramas try... The Other Bolyn Girl and Marie Antoinette and Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly

Recent Movies - I LOVED Julie and Julia

I also LOVE CHICK FLICKS... so if you need good recommendations for them let me know. Favorite being EVER AFTER!!!!

Do you know on Netflix you can pull up the Top 100 most popular movies, you can pull up Academy Award Winners and other award winners. Its a pretty remarkable system.

Me and DH are probably going to do this shortly, in lieu of getting HBO...he bought his PS3 with this in mind, we just need to hook up hte wireless because we wouldn't be able to hard wire the internet connection to it where it's currently situated.

How is the streaming selection? I know it's only 17,000 titles as opposed to whatever the really high number is for mail order, but would you be pretty safe with the classics and all new releases being streamed? And you can rent/stream television box sets I hope? I NEED to see True Blood season 2 as soon as the dvds are available, and no joke this is my main reason for wanting Netflix lol.

Re: NWR: Netflix?

We've only used the PS3 to watch one movie. It looked great - not as good as a blu ray disc but definitely good.

Yes, you can rent tv series.

I have to say the turnaround on returning movies by mail and getting back is super-quick. I mailed back 2 movies on Monday - got the new ones on Wednesday.

I never expected to receive a wedding gift from a client but DH and I say all the time this happens to be one of our best gifts!

I have to say the streaming selection leaves something to be desired. Not a lot of the new releases. But at my parents I could get them through the Tivo.
