I'm going to see a play in NYC tomorrow and I am looking for a place to have dinner that doesn't require reservations weeks in advance. Any suggestions?

Re: NYC restaurants
well Cabana doesnt take any reservations ever, only problem is it can get crowded and you can wait a bit for a table.
Im guessing you want it right by times square.
I would say carmines is out of the question, mybe tony dinapoli, ive only been to the one on the upper east side so not sure how the times square one gets.
Pietrasantra is on 49th and 8th avenue if i remember correctly, maybe try that.
Houston's you can probably get a reservation. Ive gotten reservations same day i called
Are you going before the show? probably im guessing. I get afraid with restaurants RIGHT in the times square area before a show bc they get VERY packed and i worry about time. Would you be ok with a place right near times square but not RIGHT In the area

Re: NYC restaurants
We want to eat before our 8:00 show but it doesn't have to be in that area.
Thanks for your suggestions.

houston's takes reservations?? since when?
I would just walk up and down 9th avenue in the 50s and pick a restaurant that appeals to you. Maria Pia and Puttanesca are in the area and pretty good.

Re: NYC restaurants
Can I just say that I love BAR AMERICAN! It's one of Bobby Flay's restaurants and it's amazing! Very pricey but worth it!
There is also a great pizzeria/restaurant that is fabulous...John's. It's right across from where the phantom of the opera is playing. The food is great, good on price and has a great atmosphere as well.

Re: NYC restaurants
My favorite pre-theater restaurant is Ipanema - a Brazilian restaurant - great food, not expensive and far enough away from the hustle of the theater district that you can get a seat easily.
