N*SYNC
when I looked at this fast i thought it was about N*SYNC. I thought maybe they were jumping on the reunion band wagon. Is Lance back from outerspace?
Sorry I can't help you with the gym though I'm not a member. I do know that PLANET FITNESS has many locations through NY. My brother is a member and they are crazy cheap. I am a member of Golds and I can't wait for my contratc to end so I can switch.

Re: NYSC
i'm a member.. but thinking of canceling.. moved to queens and have gone from going at least 5 times a week to 2 times... just wish they had more locations in queens... like a quick 10 min ride that didnt involve me getting on a parkway!
aside from that.. their classes are good and i love that they have a TV on each cardio machine...

Re: NYSC
I have been a member of NYSC, Gold's and Equinox. I would have to say that at NYSC, you get the most bang for your buck. The group fitness classes are excellent (Total Body Conditioning and Spin) and the prices are pretty reasonable. I go to the one in Brooklyn Heights and while it is crowded, I am pretty pleased with it.
Equinox is great but is really not worth the additional money . I went from NYSC to Equinox back to NYSC because Equinox was an extra $50 per month.
See if you can get a one-week membership and try to go to as many classes as possible.
Oh, and I have to agree with the poster above - it is cool that they have flat screens on all of the cardio machines.....

Re: NYSC
I belong to NYSC and love the convenience but I would definetly check out other gyms too if you are starting a new membership. Unelss they ahve deals going on, the new memberships now for passport (meaning you can go to any NYSC anywhere) is like 104.00 a month now accordign to a woman in my class who signed up recently.
Mine is 80 bucks a month but only because I got a hookup. VERY expensive but they ahve good classes and as I work in the city and aps FOUR on my way between work and the bus stop on my way home, including one directly across the street from my job, it really works for me. If you go to one in the city, FM me! I need a workout buddy.

Re: NYSC
I looove NYSC, can't beat the convenience of several clubs. Love the classes too! Yves is my favorite instructor- he teaches the BEST kickboxing and club strength/total body conditioning classes (at East Meadow & Syosset). He is KILLER!! I miss Long Island NYSC clubs...the ones here in NJ barely have instructors that can compare. No idea why that is...
Don't even fall for that passport stuff- they say you have to pay to use ALL the clubs but that is sooo not true. I don't have passport membership and they still allow me into other gyms that aren't my 'home' gym at any time. Unless they're becoming more strict- but I still haven't witnessed that.

....this is soooo true. I had passport for a long time and it cost a freaking fortune. So, this time, when I rejoined, I signed up just for Brooklyn Heights 'Gold membership'. It's 79.99 a month and I have never been stopped at any of the other clubs at any time. This is also true for one of my friends that goes to different NYSCs in the city. She tells me that she's never been stopped either. By the way, there are no restrictions on use during the weekends (at least, not at the clubs that I use). If there were then I might have a problem.
Get a 'Gold Membership' at the club you will use the most, then go to wherever else that you want. I think signing up at one of the clubs in the boroughs or NJ or LI can save you some money.

OOO if they do, you're lucky. Unless they changed things recently, they are NOT supposed to. They WILL allow you to use any gym that isnt your home gym ONLY if it is an offpeak hour. Like peak hours are usually weekdays from like 6am-9am and then 12-2pm and 5-7pm. Any other hours and on weekends you CAN use other gyms with a regular membership.
However, like me, the times I need to go are during peak hours so I need the passport. Otherwise, yea..they're supposed to not let you and it has happened to me before, especially during peak times at busy gyms because cardio equipment can be limited. I go to the city gyms in the 30's-50's area and its ALWAYS crowded during peak times so they really enforce the rules.
