off the pill spinoff - what kind of B/C do you use?
Original post by Munchkn16
This is probably TMI, but I need to find a new kind of brth control. After 11 years I've started to hate the pill. We're not ready to TTC yet, so we need to use something... and I'm willing to take suggestions!

i went off all pills for about 4 months (after being on the pill for over 10 years) and i've never felt so good.
i could not agree with you more!!!
after i was off the pill for a while... i just felt so... natural lol. my periods felt very natural... i cant really explain it, but in comparing a period on the pill and off the pill, its like your period is almost mechanical while your on the pill... sounds crazy but i just feel so cleansing and pure not on the pill lol

I am taking the pill. I only have forgotten to take it about 2 x's but we are safe no babies. I would rather use the pull out method then condoms I would like to switch to something different but I am not too familiar with what's out there. I heard the IDU (if that's even correct) is great bc you have to take it out when your TTC, but I heard you have to do it while you are on your period but my period appears when it wants to

honestly, i know there are a lot of ppl who will disagree with me, but i dont mind usuing condoms... i like buying all different types to enhance the pleasure - like the warming ones, twisted, her pleasure, shared pleasure etc...
we used to use nothing back in the day when i was on the pill, so i know how it feels with and without and honestly, yeah its a big difference, but not to the point where in prohibits a good time

I switched to nuvaring a few months ago.. so far I like it. Was hesitant at first, but i love that i dont have to remember to take a pill every day. ring stays 'in' for 3 weeks then 1 week off for your period, then new one in
I've been on the NuvaRing for like 5 years now and I love that there's no daily pill to take or weekly patch to replace! Just once a month and that's it. At first I was a little bugged out by the idea of putting in a ring and taking it out, but it is sooooo simple and definitely worth it for us.
I have a friend on this and she loves it too. I was going to switch that that IUD mirena, but the hormones are different from the pill and that kinda scared me - but I have 3 packs left on my BC prescription now and need to switch to a new dr so I may try nuvaring ... does it cost the same as the pill on your insurance? I know that they are all different but i was curious to see if your copay was the same ...
Just as a sidenote, the IUD Mirena is only available to women who have at least 1 child already, so unless you already have given birth, I was told you are not eligible. My friend is currently using this (she has a 2 year old) and is happy with it. Then again I know someone else who got pregnant while using this - they are not sure HOW that happened, but I say it was probably not placed correctly inside her
Cost for the nuvaring completely depends on your insurance carrier. On my company's insurance carrier, I originally paid the highest copay ($50 per month) until they moved the nuvaring down one tier to the 'preferred' name brand tier and then I started paying I think it was $25 per month. Then when I got married last year I switched to DH's insurance company and I pay only $10 per month for it! So it just depends on your insurance company and how they classify it - give your insurance a call and ask them how much your monthly copay would be if you use the Nuvaring - they will tell you over the phone. Good luck! PS: look into the mail order option also - now I order 3 months at a time for $20 so I save more that way too.
My doc said it's recommended that you have a chold first before going on Mirena, but that she prescribed it to bunches of women who were childless and it was fine. But, I also remembered that in order for me to get it, I had to order it from the company and pay for it in full - $400 or something - and then get reimbursed ... since the dr's office doesn't carry them normally .. and I forget if it would take a long time to get reimbursed or what, but between having to lay out the $ and the different type of hormones, I decided not to go on it.
Re: nuvaring, I will look it up on my insurance company's website. I do use the mail away prescription service now for my pills, and I pay $60 for three months - my pills are $30 a month but by using the mailaway option I get one month free. I would be able to pay a bit more for nuvaring but not much .,.
Thanks for your help!

I agree...lol I guess after a while you are more concern for the effects that all these types of BC will affect your health. I do tend to think about it a lot. My mom thinks that if you are too long on the birth control pill it can result in not being able to conceive. That would be scary.

I'm paying $20/mo for nuvaring..
how do you mail order something like that? My Dr will only give me a 3-6 mo prescription at a time
If you get a 6 mos. precription, you mail it away and get 3 months' supply, then renew for the other 3 months (i guess some will give you 6 months at once, mine doesn't) - and then when it's up, you just have to make sure you go to the doc to get a new one before that one's up, or that they can give you a sample to tide you over. It's sooo easy and I love not having to go to the pharmacy every month.

ugg! tell me about it!! that is my biggest fear & def something that is always in the back of my mind - which is one of the reasons why i decided to go off the pill
i've heard both sides of the story... ppl who were on the pill for 10+ years & got preggo right away after going off & other people who were on the pill for 10+ years and it took them SO long to get preggo
there is something very unatural about being on the pill... of course i didnt care about it posible effects of it AND the fact that there are so many things unknown about the pill while i was on it, but hey - that was better than getting preggo @ 18 or 19, KWIM?

Only if you are OK with getting pregnant...The pull-out method is not really a great method of protection. 4%-27% rate of failure, depending on how perfectly you do it. (4% is perfect).

I and DH are going onto 4 yrs of the pull out method bc we didn't do it so often so I guess we were lucky and not to mention stupid! I decided to go on the pill a mnth before we got married because I was afraid our luck would run out. I think we will go back to the pull method once we decide its time to get off BC...and will just wing it like most couples.

Baby sitting and sleep overs!
I'm not kidding.
My friend slept over this passed weekend and her son was running all around banging the broom on my TV, playing in the kitchen while I'm cooking, chasing my cat (she hissed for the first time ever, she's almost 12 years!!!).
When they left I called my dad hysterical. I was asking him if this is what it's really like!!

Wow! I can't be around those kids, and no they are not all the same. I mean think back to when you were a kid...I was well behaved, my neices are well behaved. It has to do with the skills one has a parent.

dh thinks i am crazy bc i like the feisty kids he says i have issues. Some are evil lol but some are just histerical and just a bit sassy so i can tolerate those type of kids. Most though are good if you know how to handle them. Ive taken care of bad kids but when i am with them we usually have a good time.

I wish I were more like you. I have no patience. I can't stand the kids that run in the mall while their moms are shopping. Once a little girl slapped my hand because she was mad at her mom...I mean what was my fault in that. My friends tell me watch your kid be a terror child...I'm like Nope I'll know how to raise them blah blah blah...I hope that's not the case that I will have an out of control child, but like I said before I feel its how you raise them. Kids like to test their limits.

yeah be careful what you say bc you'll end up with that lol. I think its very hard though bc you see parents with several kids and some are very well behaved and then you have 1 that is a terror lol. Then i've seen bad parents who have angels as kids somehow so its weird how it works out sometimes. I think the problem is that parents just yell NO all the time at kids, no dont do this, no stop right now. If the kid is having fun at what they are doing then they wont stop what they're doing to do nothing. So instead of telling a kid no only, if i am with a kid that is misbehaving, instead I will say, oh lets do this and get them to do a project with me such as drawing or coloring or playing a game. They usually respond to that. But if a kid is told no but nothing else then i think they just are bored and looking for something to do and if they have to stop whatever they are doing and not given something else to do then they will just continue doing what it was they were doing.
I see the parents with kids while they are out shopping. And the parents are just so occupied with what they have to get and is dragging the kid from store to store. This is boring for the kid so i think its only normal they will act out. I think the parent forgets that as a kid its not as fun to shop and running around the mall. Then I see the parent just yelling 'no dont touch this, stop and come next to me' they expect their kid to just follow them around and stand there doing nothing. So i think its only normal they will act out.

Kids are hyper and want to run around and have fun. I understand this. But then there's the safety issue. In my case the baby could have hurt himself in the kitchen or fell down the stairs. He's a toddler and just for a child's safety they need to know that no means stop. Then use something to distract them. I'm not a parent, so maybe I don't know how it is. But I know that a broiler gets pretty darn hot and an oven isn't a toy!!

i didnt mean anything i said towards you. I meant the parents in the stores who just yell non-stop at their kids. I meant parents only not someone taking care of someones kid. I meant parents who ONLY yell at their kids all the time while they continue doing their own business and dont realize the kid is just getting bored after 2 hours in the mall. Of course i would hope people get a baby away from a broiler, but its good you gave them something else to distract them from.
My whole point is that kids sometimes are just bad or very hyper, i don't think its always a reflection of the parents. Sometimes it is and sometimes good parents just have hyper kids lol. I didn't say a parent should never say no but i was talking just about a few specific type of people that you see so involved in the stores looking at shirts, dresses, purses, earrings, and the poor kid is just standing there following the parent with nothing really to do. So yeah i think they will get bored after some time. If the kid even touches anything the parent just yells and tells them to stop but then the parent will continue on with their business and ignoring the kid. In a way the kid i think is doing it to get some attention too. So it really depends on the situation.
But i didnt even read your above post so I dont know what you said previously, i hope you didnt think i meant anything towards you bc i did say parents and talked about a situation at a mall not at home.
