off the pill spinoff - what kind of B/C do you use?

This is probably TMI, but I need to find a new kind of brth control. After 11 years I've started to hate the pill. We're not ready to TTC yet, so we need to use something... and I'm willing to take suggestions!

I was on BC a few years ago and had a horrible experience on it. Bc of that i have been afraid to go back on it. So yeah now we're winging it lol.

we just use condoms... which of course yes is not as effective as the pill - but i was on the pill for almost 10 years & didnt want to be on it anymore or do any other BC that used hormones... i thought about a diaphragm but that seems so 1970s to me lol

so for right now, its just the good ol' condom

I was on the pill back in college but it didn't work for me because I always forget to take the pill.
Right now I'm on the patch. You get 3 patches per month and each one last for 1 week. I put the patch on on Sunday and I can forget about it for that whole week till the next weekend. I love it but I've heard that it causes blood clots. My doc was taking a lot of patience off of it for that reason but she said I can stay on it as long as I feel comfortable.

Intrauterine device. It's a little T-shaped thingy that goes inside you and releases hormones to prevent pregnancy.

I switched to nuvaring a few months ago.. so far I like it. Was hesitant at first, but i love that i dont have to remember to take a pill every day. ring stays 'in' for 3 weeks then 1 week off for your period, then new one in

I've been on the NuvaRing for like 5 years now and I love that there's no daily pill to take or weekly patch to replace! Just once a month and that's it. At first I was a little bugged out by the idea of putting in a ring and taking it out, but it is sooooo simple and definitely worth it for us.

I have a friend on this and she loves it too. I was going to switch that that IUD mirena, but the hormones are different from the pill and that kinda scared me - but I have 3 packs left on my BC prescription now and need to switch to a new dr so I may try nuvaring ... does it cost the same as the pill on your insurance? I know that they are all different but i was curious to see if your copay was the same ...

Just as a sidenote, the IUD Mirena is only available to women who have at least 1 child already, so unless you already have given birth, I was told you are not eligible. My friend is currently using this (she has a 2 year old) and is happy with it. Then again I know someone else who got pregnant while using this - they are not sure HOW that happened, but I say it was probably not placed correctly inside her

Cost for the nuvaring completely depends on your insurance carrier. On my company's insurance carrier, I originally paid the highest copay ($50 per month) until they moved the nuvaring down one tier to the 'preferred' name brand tier and then I started paying I think it was $25 per month. Then when I got married last year I switched to DH's insurance company and I pay only $10 per month for it! So it just depends on your insurance company and how they classify it - give your insurance a call and ask them how much your monthly copay would be if you use the Nuvaring - they will tell you over the phone. Good luck! PS: look into the mail order option also - now I order 3 months at a time for $20 so I save more that way too.

Birth control pills.

I have to admit, though, I'm getting really tired of them Last year I had an issue with two brands and i went off all pills for about 4 months (after being on the pill for over 10 years) and i've never felt so good. I've been back on them now for about 6 months or so and I don't like it.

I'm paying $20/mo for nuvaring..

how do you mail order something like that? My Dr will only give me a 3-6 mo prescription at a time
