Oh my - its so hideous!

Some of you know I had this idea of decoupaging pieces of our wedding cards to a wooden box to serve as a keepsake of the cards as well as a place to store stuff. A few of the other brides here did it sucessfully...

So Im so sick today and have been cooped up in the house...I finally decided to do the box. Sweet mary moses - it is really hideous! Its so uglyl I can't help but look at it and laugh!

I will have to post photos so you can laugh with me :D

I don't think it looks bad! Did you use all of your cards? I actually tried to get mine to overlap like that, but I couldn't with the size of my cards and the shape of the box. If you have more cards maybe you could just continue on the sides and in the front?

I think it's the box color that throws it off a little. Can you paint it? Or if you've got plenty of cards to cover it up then it'll be fine.

Stef, honestly, I don't think it looks that bad...I know you said you didn't have that many 'nice' cards and maybe because your box is so much bigger than ours...did you paint it?

I think it looks nice. In fact it is the things that you will put inside the box that will count

Those are all my card plus some photo copies of cards so this is it. It just looks a mess.

The box is painted a red color which is the only thing that saves it from the trash :D

Stef, I expected better from you. Why does it look so unorganized. I think you did not put your heart in to this project. Can you take them off and start again. THose are beautiful, I think its all in the lay out, or maybe b/c its square and not round who knows

See, I told you its a mess and you didnt believe me :P

Im not all that concerned. It was a just a little project that did not go well. I dont really like how decoupage projects look when the items dont overlap so I THOUGHT i had enough stuff to cover the lid of the box but I was wrong. There is no easy way to start over but thats okay...it will be kitchy in about 20 years :D

Stef I know what you mean. I cut out WAY too many cards that I didn't end up needing, and I was afraid I didn't have enough. When it's your first time, it's really hard to get it 'right' when you're not familiar with what you're doing. I basically copied Stacey so that's how mine turned out the way it did.

Its not lopsided, it just looks that way b/c of the way I photographed it.

No worries - even I know that Martha Stewart has a team working round the clock to get their projects to look fab. It still serves the purpose :D

Stef, can you undecoupage and start over ? What if you put a picture of one or two cards (organized) on each of the sides and the top of the box - kind of make a geometric design over a collage?

Thanks Alina but I cant start over. I used the wedding cards so even if I could scrap it all off (which I have no desire to do), I wouldnt have any of the cards that I liked to use.

Stef - to me it looks amazing. I don't think I could even attempt something like that. I have a hard enough time making pages to go into a scraprbook - and that is with the help of a creative memories consultant!

Stef, now I am scared to try ours. I always thought you were crafty and everything you touch turns out so nice. What will mine look like?? I think we need step by step lessons from the ladies that did theirs so nice. Anyone holding classes??

I am happy to see that not all of your crafts go well I agree with you Stef. This is nothing like what you wanted. But the color of the box is throwing the project off. IT should be white.

Michele - you know I dont do white anything :P

In my defense, this is my first decoupage project and I didnt have that much to work with to begin with. 99% of my cards were crap :P
