many times most things seem more complicated than they really are. When you look at a recipe dont sit there ahead of time thinking that it sounds hard. If you just follow step by step instructions i think you will be surprised that it works very well.

They tell you the exact measurements and then even in the instructions tell you exactly what you have to do.

Maybe you want to start with simple things first such as grilling steak or chicken, chicken cutlets, mashed potatoes.

Most things honestly, all you need is a measuring cup and youre fine lol. For example chicken franchaise sounds alot harder than it is. But you just fry the chicken and even tells you how long on each side to cook it, then you take out the chicken and after that all youre doing is measuring ingredients and throwing it in the pan and thats it. Just go on the foodnetwork.com and theres tons of step by step recipes

Is there a specific thing you want to cook?

I am a big fan of one pot cooking...

Casseroles

Roasted chicken in a pan with cut red potatoes and seasoning

stir-fry - buy the bag of stir-fry vegetables and sliced steak...

The less ingredients the better for me! I bought a cookbook called the 'four-ingredient cookbook' - lifesaver!!!

something very simple is buy steak, brush just a little bit of olive oil on both sides but very little, and buy a steak grilling blend and rub some on it. Put it on the grilling pans and let it cook either 6 mins on each side or you can do 6 mins on one side and 8 mins on another side. Now you can just serve the steak like that, maybe give him steak sauce on the side. OR if you want, here is a recipe of bernaise sauce that ive made before. Its alot of ingredients thats the only thing but its easy to make bc again youre just measuring everything and throwing it in a pot and takes just a few mins

bernaise sauce

3 tablespoons white vinegar
3 tablespoons white wine
10 peppercorns, crushed
2 tablespoons finely chopped shallots
1 tablespoon chopped tarragon
1 tablespoon water
3 egg yolks
1 cup unsalted butter, melted
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley leaves

In a saucepan, combine the vinegar, wine, peppercorns, shallots, and tarragon. Bring the liquid to a boil and reduce to 1 tablespoon. Add 1 tablespoon of water. Add the egg yolks and whisk, over low heat, until frothy, about 3 to 4 minutes. In a steady stream, add the butter until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper. Strain the sauce through a chinois and set aside. Garnish with the parsley leaves. Yield: about 1 cup

you can make it with mashed potatoes which is fairly easy to do also. Peel potatoes(say about 5 of them depends on how much you want to make) and then cut them into smaller pieces, usually you can cut 1 potato into 4 smaller pieces. Bring a pot of water to a boil and then throw in the potatoes, let it cook for a bit. To test if they are done just put a fork through a piece and see if it goes through, if its still a bit hard let it cook more until it is soft.

Then you put the potatoes into a collander to strain the water. After that i put the potatoes into a bowl, add a little bit of milk and butter. Butter you put as much as you like say 1 or 2 tablespoons, milk i just splash a little in i dont measure it, and throw in some salt. And then i get the hand mixer and mix it for a little bit, depends how you like it whether real soft or not, so mix until its the consistency you like. Then taste it and see if you need to add more butter or salt, or if it looks to dry add a little bit more milk.

I should start doing this. Sometimes I have like 3-4 pots and pans going on at once, usually i would say 3 is the norm not to mention some things i make have sooo many ingredients, and while im cooking and looking around there are just things everywhere. Well now I make sure to put things away as soon as i am done with it, helps with cleaning time after.

Take Out

Sorry I don't cook -- well very limited things. Good thing DH does and is home.

ETA: I do have one thing that I make --

Turkey Tacos or Shrimp Fajitas -- both simple and actually not bad for you.

For the Turkey Tacos
It is one package of ground turkey meat
A taco kit

Just brown the meat and add in the seasoning as directly. I do the sides too -- tomatoe, lettuce, guacamole, beans etc.

The fajitas basically the same

I buy the Fajita Kit
Stir fry fresh veggies and precooked shirmp

Thank god for dishwashers thats all i can say

Skirt Steak is awesome because it is very flavorful so you dont even need to do a lot. I just put some Montreal Steak Seasoning on both sides and put it under the broiler for a few, maybe 10 minutes, or a little less on each side depending on how cooked you like it. You can find a big container of the Montreal Seasoning near all the spices in the supermarket.

Also steaming or sauteeing veggies is quick and easy and then you can do some potatoes or rice or pasta on the side. I've been buying these potato seasoning packets, i'll hae to check on who makes them but they are super easy. Just cut up the potatoes (i use the small red ones) and put it in the bag (provided in the packet) along with some oil and the spices and then microwave for about 10 mins - Its great and it makes a lot of food and it saves time on baking and haveing to make all the spices yourself.

if you are new at cooking, i find it helps to really pay attention, dont have any distractions

I know a few people who are bad cooks or make errors and that is because they have ADD and cant sit still
When you are cooking something over the stove top your feet must be planted in front!

Try to watch food network, record episodes, print out the recipe.

I think anyone can cook you just have to concentrate and NOT move from the kitchen

Re: OK married ladies.. Cooking advise!!!

I thought I'd give you my recipe for Vodka Cream Sauce. Its really easy and extremely tasty. I'm a fan of spicy foods so I always double the red pepper. lol.

* 1 stick butter
* 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
* 1/2 cup vodka
* 1 can Italian crushed tomatoes
* 1 1/2 cups Parmesan Reggiano cheese (fresh, not Kraft or anything like that.)**
* 1 cup heavy cream

Melt butter over medium heat until bubbly; add red pepper flakes and cook for 30 seconds.
Raise heat to high, and quickly add vodka; simmer for 2 minutes The alcohol burns off, but makes tomatoes 'come alive'.
Add the tomatoes and simmer for 1 minute.
Add the two cheeses, mix rapidly and simmer for three minutes
Add heavy cream and simmer for at least 3-4 minute.

*Sometimes I use 1 cup of Parmesan and 1/2 of Romano cheese instead. Usually just when I don't have enough Parmesan.. lol. It tastes the same to DH but I notice a little difference.

In total the sauce is maybe 10 minutes. Get out all of your ingredients and line them up, because it moves fast! lol. I always put the water for the pasta up to boil first. Then I get all the ingredients ready. I start the sauce right then. When it's done if the pasta isn't ready yet I turn the sauce to low heat, leave it uncovered. When the pasta is ready, mix it all together.
