We just saw it Friday night but I am curious if you loved it? What you thought of it?
DH and I really liked it but it wasn't like the best movie I have ever seen! I thought it was a great story and a different kind of movie. I loved how they filmed it and thought they did a great job capturing all the feelings/emotions/etc. Ok but I didn't see any of the other movies nominated so not sure how they compared.
One thing that did annoy me about slumdog was....Jamal never told how he got on the show??? Or did I miss that part???

Re: ok so who saw Slumdog Millionaire??
I only saw half of it. I have to watch the whole thing again. From what I saw I really liked the movie it reminded me of the Kite Runner and the likes. It really makes you feel greatful to be American and not to have to go through the things that other people in the world go through.

Yes me too! I think that's why I connected with it more than DH because of the book Kite runner and a thousand splendid suns (if you didn't read that one you should - its better than kite runner)!!!

YES I loved A Thousand Splendid Suns!. I agree that it was much better then the Kite Runner. Real Depressing though. When I was reading I would have to pause through certain chapters to let everything sink in.

im not big into the academy awards... so i dont really know what a 'best picture' movie is supossed to consist of... but i do know its causing a lot of controversy!!

I saw it and thought it was a really good movie. The only other nominee I saw was Benjamin Button. I did think it was a lot better than Benjamin Button.

I liked the movie a lot.. however I think that it is getting a lot of praise for a 'good' movie.

i loved the movie.. i saw it and i read the book as well.. i 'think' he got on the show by calling the gameshow number and was selected randomly.. the book has something similar.. i know for a lot of my friends and myself, the movie kind of shows the reality of slumlife of the kids.. the love story and stuff is all mush and fluff..

DH and I saw it on Valentine's Day and we really liked it! For me, it actually topped Benjamin Button and Australia! IMO, Ben Button is getting way too much praise - Although, I didnt watch the awards last night so I have no clue who won what.

I am sorry to be crashing and to cause some controversy, but there are other western countries, besides America where people live freely and happily!!!

I am sure that is true! I think what the Newlyweds are saying is that we are happy to be where we are... it wasn't putting anyone's country down. Happy PLanning!

DH and I have watched some things on TV about other countries and honestly we always say we are curious about what it would be like to live in europe or even canada - its not that we are anti-america or don't love america BUT i'm not so sure that the US is the best country out there.....that has nothing to do with the movie but i thought id share

not a documentary.. it was adapted from a book.. so its fictional.. but its portayal of the slum kids is quite real.. so its a mixed bag..

Re: ok so who saw Slumdog Millionaire??
DH and I loved it. We saw it a few months ago because dh's job screens all the movies for the SAG members in NYC.
I didn't even want to go see it, we were going to just show up at the theater and leave. So glad we didn't leave. It personally was the best movie I've seen this year. I actually stood up and clapped! They had a Q & A after the screening with the director Danny Boyle and Dev (the lead actor). It was really great! I knew from that moment that it was going to be a 'sleeper hit.' It comes from the same studio as Juno and Little Miss Sunshine. They are more 'word of mouth' films.

Yes and his struggles in life lead him to......I dont want to give anything away here but he reflects on his struggles and it gets him something in the end!
