We just saw it Friday night but I am curious if you loved it? What you thought of it?
DH and I really liked it but it wasn't like the best movie I have ever seen! I thought it was a great story and a different kind of movie. I loved how they filmed it and thought they did a great job capturing all the feelings/emotions/etc. Ok but I didn't see any of the other movies nominated so not sure how they compared.
One thing that did annoy me about slumdog was....Jamal never told how he got on the show??? Or did I miss that part???

DH and I loved it. We saw it a few months ago because dh's job screens all the movies for the SAG members in NYC.
I didn't even want to go see it, we were going to just show up at the theater and leave. So glad we didn't leave. It personally was the best movie I've seen this year. I actually stood up and clapped! They had a Q & A after the screening with the director Danny Boyle and Dev (the lead actor). It was really great! I knew from that moment that it was going to be a 'sleeper hit.' It comes from the same studio as Juno and Little Miss Sunshine. They are more 'word of mouth' films.
I havent seen many other noteworthy movies this year but I did like this one, the more I think about it, the more I like it...does that make sense?
But I still am confused about the part where they ask him how he got on the show.....HOW DID HE GET ON???

Re: ok so who saw Slumdog Millionaire??
we just saw that movie Saturday night. I have to be honest and say that whenever people tried to describe what the story was about, it just sounded like the most boring movie EVER. But we decided to check it out anyway, and OMG - it was really good!! I nearly cried at the end. It's definitely the kind of movie that I wouldn't want to be see again (because it was just too disturbing, all that he went thru), but i'm glad i saw it. I think the writer did such an excellent job with telling this story. There was like three sections to it - his past, the gameshow, and him explaining his past. Pretty interesting.
Oh, and no, they never did explain how he gets on the gameshow, as far as I remember. I think they asked him about it, and then he started to go into his past again, but that was when he found his brother's number and called him from where he worked or whatever. I was all ready for this to explain how he got on, but they never did. So that was odd.

can someone please tell me what this movie is even about? i don't even have a clue - is it an american movie? or no?
its about a child from the slums of india who grows up and takes part in a tv show and wins by getting every answer right.. it takes you through their life and struggles as well.. showcases their trials and stuff like that..
is it a true story? like is the movie a documentry? or is it totally fictional with indian actors?
not a documentary.. it was adapted from a book.. so its fictional.. but its portayal of the slum kids is quite real.. so its a mixed bag..
gotcha - i have to see if its still in the movies maybe DH and i will see - sounds like its worth checking out

I loved it, dh thought it was ok but didnt love it. I just loved that it had everything in it, love, betrayal, struggles, and just this great story about what those 3 kids went through in their lives. And i am SOOOO HAPPY they won, its so nice to see thes non hollywood kids winning, you see just how excited they were to just even be there and that was just a dream they probably didnt even imagine ever happening.
I saw benjamin buttons too and liked that one alot, dh liked it better than slumdog. I liked both alot so either that wouldve won i would think was a good choice.

it is weird when i try to tell ppl what its about. I say its about a boy on a gameshow and shows his past through the answers and ppl think ok whats so special about that lol. But i dont want to give anything away so thats why its hard to describe. But yeah every question he is asked, he knows the answer bc of something that happened in his past and they show that. Starts from when he is very young and he, his brother and Latika had a very hard life. But i dont want to give any of that away so i just say they go through so many things and really shows their struggles.

They do allude to how he got on the show in a round about way...he works for a phone company and there's a scene where all the people he works with are calling into the show and he tells one guy when is the best time to call in-when he should start dialing... which he apparently knows from being at his job and paying attention to detail...like he did all through his life

yeah at his job the guy who worked taking those calls asks him to watch his station and then he calls, so yeah they did show exactly how he got on the show.

yeah do you remember where he worked? he would get coffee for ppl at his job, the place he worked were all these different stations, which were customer service ppl and each cubicle was like a different company. Well he brings coffee to one guy and the guy asked him to watch his phone for a few mins. Thats also how he finds out his brothers number when he looks it up.

hmmm no they didnt all try to get on.
Now the company he worked for was kinda like a company that people around the world use for outsourcing. So all those ppl on the phones were just customer service and that was their job. So thats what that scene is about.

Re: ok so who saw Slumdog Millionaire??
I remember his friend being like watch my phone, I want to try and call in. Then Jamal looks up his brothers number and calls him. I guess they never showed him calling to get on, but rather just alluded to it?

Re: ok so who saw Slumdog Millionaire??
The guy asked him to watch his station so he could do do somehting millionaire related wich is why they had thar conversation. He looks up his brother while his co-eorker is gone but the movie never actually shows him making his own call to millionaire, they just provided the info to how he got on.

yes exactly, they dont show him making the actual call to the show but the area he was covering for a co-worker was for the show and you see him interested in it and wanting to call it. They did say something about calling in for the show and when and i think he paid attention to that.
