Don't ask what I would do.
It involves screaming bloody murder and jumping around in a circle.

Eeeeeeeeek, I don't do well with bugs! I would call the janiter and let him know. Maybe they can spray in your classroom. ICK!!!!!!

Shake everything out before you leave. Shake again before you put it in the car, and then when you get home. Check your purse, and the inside of your coat. Complain to the principal.

Re: Okay I'm freaking out...
uuuuugh!! I once had a roach in our apartment Queens from the plastic bag of food we got delivered to us...worst part my cat decided to play with it but not kill it. I pretty much threw out the contents of our apartment and came close to burnign the place down. UGH. No Joke, I slept with a can of raid on my nightstand for 2 years after that.
Maybe sure to just shake out your bag and your jacket and stuff before you leave. Also tell someone about it.. they should exterminate or something.

I spoke to another teacher who keeps all of her stuff in a sealed garment bag so I will be going to a store immediately after school to buy a completely hole free bag!

Re: Okay I'm freaking out...
Nobody is going to want to hear this but...better to know the truth, so here goes...
Where there's one roach, there's many.
They lay mulitple eggs and they hatch very quickly. Killing one roach does not mean you killed its eggs, either. The eggs can live after the roach has died, so they can still hatch. Just be careful now!
The 'good' news is they tend to live in the walls and ceilings and not come out most of the time to bother us.
Ugh, it's so gross. Sorry.

Eeeek! We have mice in my school and they make rare appearances during the day. It's a hundred year old building so there's not much they can do. We always keep our food in sealed rubbermaid containers, maybe you can get a bigger one that you can throw your personal items into. I think I prefer the mice since I don't think they'll come home with me!

we have mice and roaches in my school.. my kids don't know what a ladybug is, but they all know what a roach is.. they say they have the mommies & daddies at their house!
One time, one of my students had a ROACH on his NECK!!!!
GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSS!!!
Just make sure everything you have is sealed. Do NOT keep food in the classroom esp. open food. And shake everything out before you leave. I don't out anything on the floor either.
Are you a city teacher? I am SHOCKED you haven't seen them before!
