Old kitchen stuff
I am replacing my old kitchen stuff with the new ones we got from our wedding (ie. plates, glasses, blender, and other appliances). What did you do with your old kitchen stuff? I hate to throw it away, but I don't know anyone in need of this stuff. I'm open for suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Old kitchen stuff
I wanted to trash it but my husband insisted we keep it in the basement for whatever reason. One day we will give it to Salvation Army or something..but until then its boxed up.

Re: Old kitchen stuff
You may be able to donate it to schools for Home Ec. programs. Call around some of the public schools in your area!

Re: Old kitchen stuff
I have the perfect place for eveyone to donate old thingsI work for Covenant House
Covenant House New York
It is a nonprofit childcare agency and we work with homeless and at risk youth under 21 years of age. Basically we started as a homeless shelter over 30 years ago and we work with kids to give them the skills they need to become independent- getting a job, finishing high school or getting a ged- going on to college, etc
So donations of any kind are always needed since it is soooooo hard to buy all the things you need to set up a new apartment.
please let me know if you would like more information

Re: Old kitchen stuff
We gave our old stuff to a friend of a friend who's daughter was moving off campus. College students always need that stuff!

Re: Old kitchen stuff
I really like the idea of donating the stuff. I never even thought of that, but I donate my clothes all the time!Laura - How would I donate my stuff to Covenant House? I don't have a car and I live in Queens. I don't have a complete set of dishes (courtesy of my DH's clumsiness) but the dishes and other things I do have are in fair to excellent condition. Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Old kitchen stuff
We do pickups for large quantity of things--what part of Queens are you in? We have a site in Jamaica right on Hillside Avenue? we also get things mailed to us- I know with the expense of mailing that is sometimes hard as well---Let me know if we can figure something out

Re: Old kitchen stuff
We boxed it all up. A lot of it was in pretty good shape. My nephew will be moving out in his own in hte next year, and he knows he's got all the basics.
