Demetra, I agree with your point in trying to keep a distance. At least your in-laws didn't build an addition in their own house to have you guys live with them (which we saw on our tour of greece this past september)!!! She is trying to be helpful and probably doesn't understand the need to have some distance.

Lenny's parents are trying to do the same for us (we're not interested in buying anything just yet, but certainly not in their area and/or immediately near them)

Hmmm...it sounds like she's trying to do something nice for you. Perhaps it's just different for her, maybe in her life family are welcome to do that. I would be appreciative, but tell her that you'd like her to call first.

Maybe you could tell her that hearing noises in your backyard that you aren't expecting scares you! It would scare me-I'd think it was a robber!
