Sooo i may have posted something about this before....

DH NEVER added me to his insurance during open enrollment time (before our wedding or at least before we left for the HM) like he was supposed to!

I got rid of my insurance! Like i was supposed to. During my open enrollment time... before the wedding.

We get back from the HM and he then says he will do it!

Well he calls and has a fight with the woman because he missed the enrollment period! UH HELLO I'M PREGNANT NOW!!! I NEED INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!!!

So she says he can do it and sends paperwork to us. I fill it out and send it back. He gets the papers late December.... mails them back MONDAY of this week!! And I now lost my insurance as of Dec 31st and I have a dr appt Jan 11!!!!!

Well now we get a call today from the lady... she needs my SSC faxed to her! Why didn't they ask for this with the paperwork?? in late December?? I lost my card. I have no clue where it is!! It's in my house someplace i'm sure... but I just haven't been able to find it for months!!! So now because my appt is this Monday I have to RUN to the ss office to get a new one. This whole thing is sooo annoying because if he did what he was supposed to back in November or if he even send the paper work when he first got it and I completed it and gave it to him in late Dec... I wouldn't be this pressed for time and it wouldn't be this stressful!!

I'M LIVID!!! YOU ARE SOOO ON MY **** LIST TODAY JERK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So weird. I typed out a response before, but it didn't post.

Is it possible for you to get COBRA coverage from you old insurance?

I have a pre-existing condition and have been told that if I have a lapse in coverage a new carrier may refuse to cover the pre-existing condition. Will DH's insurance be retroactive to 1/1? If not, can you verify that they will not refuse coverage for your preganancy as a pre-existing condition?

so i cut and copied it and posted it again!

that was strange!! at least i know im not that crazy!!

yes C it is BCBS - what happened with you???

i yelled at him like crazy then took a shower then after that i appologized for yelling and cried bc i yelled at him! oh hormones!!

we are going to jamaica now to get another card. but it will take a week to come and my appt is monday!! they will have to take the receipt until i get my real card.

maybe we can do a name change too???

Oh no!

We got married after DH's open enrollment and with his insurance, we were able to add me beacuse of the change in marital status. Mind you he did it November 30th and I'm still waiting for insurance cards.

If you are going down to SS, you might as well get the name change out of the way too! Be sure to bring your marriage license because they will ask for that.

We have Empire United/BCBS and DH called ahead of time and said I'm getting married and I need my wife added and they retroactively added me from our wedding date but we had to pay the family rate the full month of September. There isn't a waiting period for 'life events' such as marriage and birth but we had to make a little noise about it. Also, they didn't need anything from me, just my name, social and our marriage cert. You shouldn't have to wait for open enrollment have him talk to his HR person. Marriage is a life event and sometimes they can't add you right away because you're waiting for your marriage certificate so if you just got it you're in the right time span.

All I have to say is permission granted!!
I am so glad they still added you - some places wouldnt and what a NIGHTMARE that would be to be preggers and have no insurance - well I would say that he owes you a dinner AND a loooooong backrub to humble himself

yeah - you shouldn't have to wait for open enrollment because it is a 'life change' event. I just did the forms to add me to DH's insurance (he works for the LIRR). I needed a photocopy of my ss card and a copy of my marriage license.

Of course, I didn't have my ss card either so I went down and got a new one mailed to me. Of course, the next day while moving I found my old card.

yea I know how all that works.. and normally the change constitutes as a life changing event.... but with DSNY apparently not! i've never heard of not having a life changing event before. My company certainly has that and just living together counts as a life changing event... forget about getting married. For him we HAD to be married and they wouldn't do it before. We couldn't call the insurance company directly because he had to go through the offices at his job for it all. His job doesn't just offer one or two kinds of insurance... literally he has a choice of ANY insurance company.. there are like 20 on the list and then different plans for each one! My company works very differently from his... and it's more the norm of what everyone else is saying.

They wouldn't even let us change the insurance plan because it wasn't open enrollment....but we at least got them to add me to his existing plan! it was a fight with them, believe me. I was SHOCKED and really ANNOYED that they didn't have any such thing as life changing events!!!! I figured you work for the city so you must!! They said even though we got married... it doesn't matter because he missed open enrollment and they can't change anything. They didn't even seem to want to add me at first. Thankfully we at least got that!

they also don't have paternal time off.... so literally he gets ZERO days off when we have a baby. My job gives father's 4 weeks. I was like well you better at least be able to leave work to get your *** to the hospital when I'm in labor!! He said they will make something up for him???!?!!!? MAKE SOMETHING UP FOR YOU??? what's better than MY WIFE IS IN LABOR... GOTTA GO YO!!! hahahaha!!!

But they let me not hyphenate it too ... even though it's hyphenated on the marriage cert! I was happy about that! So it's official! name change - CHECK!! I wont get the card for 2 weeks.... but they gave me a receipt that his job said they would accept - thankfully!!! So looks liek I have insurance for monday's dr appt!!! woo hoo!!!!

COngrats!!!! Glad it worked out and they tell you 2 weeks but both times I had to get a new card I had it in a few days...a week tops!

UGH!
So now it's going to take 4 to 6 weeks for my to have insurance!!!

When it does go through though it will back track as of the wedding date! but still!!! I have no insurance for my appointment on monday and probably also for the appointment after that!

I call DH to tell him to call the doctor's office to have them work something out (have them bill us or wait to bill us until the insurance kicks in or something because I WILL be covered for this time period at some point).... and he is like 'Can't you call?' UM THIS IS YOUR F*CK UP... WHY SHOULD I FIX IT?? YOU FIX IT!!! Thanks for being lazy and not listening to me every single time I told you to call them and add me and take care of it!!! Jerk!!

He even actually said 'do you want to yell at me again for this?' YES! YES I DO!! Each time I get more bad news I would like to slap you and yell more!!!! Why the heck wouldn't I!! Your lack of responsibilty for this matter is screwing me over and over again... why would you not get yelled at each time I get screwed for this????

I'm sorry to hear this! Hopefully, the paperwork will be processed quickly and it will all get sorted out.

In the meantime, I think DH should treat you to a pre-natal massage to help alleviate the stress he has caused.
