picture problem

hi - i posted this on the bhb board already - any advices from those with experience?

Here's the problem.

I got my proofs and i am not happy.

Some, but not all of the problems include:

1. The picture of my flowers w/ invitation was taken too far away to read the words;

2. There are no table shots - i specified this to them beforehand and they wrote it down;

3. Unless someone was on the dance floor, there are no pictures of them;

4. Some of the shots are blurred on the edges (i was told this was for effect) - it just looks blurry.

I am waiting for the owner to call me after he goes over everything with the photographer and i don't want to bad mouth them, but, I don't know what i am going to do. I'll never have these pictures - i am so dissapointed. Should I demand money from them? I don't know how else they could compensate for this. I just wanted the photos.

EDITED TO ADD:

ok, so now that i don't have all the pictures i wanted i was told by the owner of the studio that any shots i want can be re-created from the video - has anyone ever heard of this? Also, he said that pictures with my eyes closed or squinting (alot of them were taken outside with the sun in my eyes) can be 'digitally altered'. He says he can take 'my eyes' from a good picture and 'put them on' the one with them closed! I can't beleive it but he assures me that this can be done. He also said that the proofs can be changed so we are 'closer' and the other ones will be clearer. He said they can all be 'enhanced' or zoomed in for detail. He made no excuses for why i don't have the pictures i would have expected and asked for (ie. any tables, the entire coctail hour, my nephew playing the guitar at church, my niece doing a reading, the people who caught the bouquet and garter, etc.) What do you think? I guess i have to let him try it, otherwise i don't have much. Please give me your opinions. Thanks.

Re: picture problem

Yes - photos can be digitally altered to open closed eyes, etc.. I dont think they look exactly teh same but pretty close.

Stills can be captured from video but the quality is no where near what you get with a camera. Its better than nothing.

'Unless someone was on the dance floor, there are no pictures of them'
Did you want them to take photos of everyone at your wedding even if they were sitting at their table eating and not doing anything that might make for a good photo. I think its pretty standard that photographers take photos of the action - dancing, kissing, crying, etc..

'Some of the shots are blurred on the edges (i was told this was for effect) - it just looks blurry.'
If its just blurry on the edges, this is an effect. You cant fix it but you can crop out the blurryness to get a photo without the edges. You may not like how it looks but its a pretty standard effect that photographers use to create a 'dreamlike look'. I wasnt crazy about it either so I asked my photographer not to use it.

Hope that helps :D

Re: picture problem

i just wanted to say that i don't think you're problems are that unusual. i have very few pics of guests other than the bp and people who danced all night (thank god for table cameras). i also have no shots from the cocktail hour, none of our musicians, none of the invitation or just a table with the centerpiece etc. i'm sorry you're not happy with them, but you're not alone. hopefully they can fix as much as possible and maybe you can call some of your friends and family and see if they took their own pics to get more variety. good luck!
