Please just tell me I'm being a B*tch!

Please just tell me I'm being a B*tch!

First off, weddings over, had a GREAT time and am working on my review, thanks for all your help!

Secondly, we are going through gifts, cards, etc and marking them in my invitation list so we know who to thank, and I'm finding alot of people who did not send gifts, and didn't even bring a card of congratulations.

I'm trying to be nice, and remember them being there is truely gift enough and maybe they can't afford it (even if I know otherwise). And I know technicaly you have a year or whatever to send a gift, but not even a card! This includes a couple whose wedding I was in in May and gave a substantial gift too. As well as various friends and family, many VERY close.

But I put off buying so many things saying, 'we'll get nice ones at the wedding' or afterwards, but we came out with so little to show. It makes me sad since it's either save for a house (which seens inpossible), or buy nicer stuff (ours is all college leftovers).

Please just tell me I am being a selfish b*tch and get me out of this funk!

We had two people who were IN our wedding not give a card or a gift.

I hear ya, I really do!

No you're not being a b*tch at all! Even though it's not technically 'required' for guests to bring gifts, it's true that we've come to expect it, or at least some sort of acknowledgment, and we're hurt when we don't receive it. They're the ones being rude, not you!!!!! I had the same thing happen to me, and you're right it really s*cks but we can't do anything about it unfortunately. It shows a lot about those people though. I cannot even IMAGINE going to someone's wedding and not giving them anything (I'd be so embarrassed)!!!!! So yeah, I agree w/ everything you said.

its the grand secret about weddings that couples only discover after it's over

I would say that if it is more than 2 or 3 that you would expect it from, ask. Maybe soem went missing?!!??! Good Luck!

I don't think you're being bitchy at all. I can't really complain. We ended up with about $2-3k more than we were expecting and only 1 person didn't give us a gift. It really bothered me too because this is someone who brought one of his male friends to the wedding as his date (he was invited with his wife). We asked because it was only one and we thought it may have been lost. No, he gave us a card and check after, but we're still waiting for the okay to cash it.

On the other hand, I am SERIOUSLY ticked that we did not get cards from our parents, on either side, or from my sister. Our parents paid for our wedding, but I still thought we'd get a card. Especially after FMIL mentioned at least once a week how none of our friends would give us gifts and not to expect cards from them because they have no etiquette (sp?). Yeah? Well, we got cards from every one of our friends. Where's yours biotch? Grrr, I can't stand the woman. I can understand my sister because she's young and naive, but our parents??

We, and most of our friends, came from OOT to our wedding, so for some of them who have new babies or financial constraints, just having them there was truly enough for us because they had to pay to travel and stay in a hotel. But we did have a few cases of what I'd consider to be rude gift-giving (or lack thereof) practices.

I totally see where you're coming from, but in the end, it would take a pretty big pair of ballz to ask someone where their gift is... though I bet it's tempting!
