Please tell me it will get better!!!

Jenn dont worry! I did nothing for the first 10 days at my job when I started. it was brutal. it DOES get better and you will be trained/given work!

I am looking terms up on wikipedia and the things I am reading are making NO sense to me, and then my mind wanders ... and then I re-read what I just read and it still makes no sense. Like does this make sense to anyone???

If I can understand that, then I am sure you can lol I think you just need to focus. You are worried that you don't have any work and that you don't want to look like you are doing nothing but sitting on your butt.

CPM, based upon what wikipedia says, to me seems to be just a timeline. Its an estimate of how long each job is going to be, and what is the shortest time it can be done, and you estimate or calculate upon that to form a timeline of the project from start to finish. I think you just need to concentrate on what little you have in front of you, and ask your boss when he comes back about your duties. Just tell him that you would like to maybe shadow someone for a few days to get a better understanding of things?

Uck I am sorry it isn't so wonderful right now! I can't imagine that they hired you only so they could pay you to do nothing. I am sure they will get to you - I guess their training procedures just aren't all that great! I just wanted to give you that I am thinking of you and it WILL get better!!!

Does the position require that you have knowledge of this sort of stuff before you started??? If not, then just take it easy, you will get it eventually. Even in the job I have now, there is a lot of legal stuff going on, and I have no clue when someone tells me about an Order we put in, and they try to explain it to me, and I look at them like they have 3 heads lol

I did the same thing though, I have googled or Wiki'd most of the law terms and doing some of that has helped me a lot. If you are really stuck on something, just ask someone else. :) It will get better, just like everyone said..just hang in there.

I think they would have preferred that I had knowledge of the industry, but they hired me because I have writing experience ... the other people in this job don't really have experience or skill in that so that is something unique I bring. But I can't write anything yet because I don't really know anything.

Jenn first I want to say Congrats on the job. I haven't been on and had no idea.

It will definitely get better!!! I transferred within my company and I still felt like you did the first week while everyone was doing what they do, I was talking to you ladies waiting for someone to finally sit with me.

I'm sorry you are feeling this way. The first week or so at a new job is definately not fun , very awkward and annoying..So I totally hear you. But it can be worse. When I first started my job, it was the opposite,..they expected me to know everything!!! without training!!!! and when something wasn't completed the right way..they would ask 'why'. I couldn't stand it!!! But I hope things get better for you soon!!!

Don't worry it will. Being new su cks but soon you will have things to do to keep you busy. My mom was like that at first in her new job so I know that it can be very frustrating, but as soon as you boss gets in I am sure he/she will assist you or have someone show you what you should be doing.

yeah dh is a project manager engineer and has to do this, probably the part he hates the most. Your whole job depends on this one thing, you give companies estimates before you start a job and if you guess wrong on how long it will take then you cost the company more money. You have to go through the whole job first and see what needs to be done, if you miss one thing then it can be VERY costly if this isn't in the proposal and you go over budget. Some jobs DH has can have like 200 pages in the proposal just going over every little thing.

After time all these things make sense. Just from DH talking to me about some things all the time, i know what they mean and what he has to do, in simple terms not everything he has to do lol.

I would look through old proposals and whatever words you dont understand look it up or maybe find a book that explains what all these things are and what they do. At first you don't need to know how everything works, they won't expect that, if they did they would've hired someone who had a lot of experience in this field. But you just have to figure out what your role is bc if youre going to do the proposals then you'll be able to do it without knowing how everything works.

The first week or weeks of a new job are usually like this.
