No not really. Ive been to parties where it was asked but I never brought because I barely drink anyway. But you have some people who come to house parties who go overboard drinking and consume all the alcohol. If I had guests like that I would provide what I could and if they want more they have to bring it.

We are having a NYE party at our house (FIL's house) and we are supplying food but it's byo drinks besides the keg we have set up. It's mostly just our friends who come over to hang out anyway and they suggested the byo drinks. Plus our friends like scotch and it's not cheap.
ETS: That's interesting that you have to bring your own beer-liquor is what is really expensive so that seems funny to me.

Honestly whenever I invite friends over they always bring beer or wine or something to drink...when I go somewhere I always bring as well..I mean if you drink you should bring its RUDE to show up empty handed!

Not at all rude! I am going to a party and it is 'bring your own'. I think it is nice of someone to play host on a late night like this and I would bring something with me with out a problem.

Nope not at all. Most NYE parties that I go to are BYOB. It works out you drink what you like and the liquor never runs out Besides the amount of money saved from a house party vs a club to bring liquor is nothing.

I do not think it;s rude. I think the party-giver should have some beer available, but people all drink different things - it makes sense to have people bring their own! And it's cheaper for the host, who's already supplying food, liquor, etc.

i think its ruder for people to show up empty handed than for you to ask them to bring beer- no one in our group is beer drinkers so we dont buy it- but if people ask us what to bring, we usually suggest wine :

Re: POLL b/c im bored and have been thinking about this....
no, but i guess it depends on how you asked....like if i got invited to a party said yes ill come and then the day before they called and said oh by the way you HAVE to bring beer id be like w-t-f but if its just like saying oh you want to come over for new years to hang out? ill make food do you mind bringing some beer? than that is totally different.....but i would probably bring something anyway if i was going to a house party - like someone else said we always bring something to bbqs and holidays

I was invited to a party that we go to every year, and this was the first year they asked us to bring something. I think most people are more than happy to bring something along anyway. I mean, they are supplying the atmosphere and some of the items, so why not chip in.
I personally also hate arriving somewhere empty handed. :X

I answered 'No not rude'
Whenever I am invited to someone's house I never go empty handed. Most of the times my friends will say to bring something or a bottle of wine and that is totally fine.

I don't think it's rude - and not just because times are tough, I just think as the host you're supplying a lot, people can bring their choice of alcohilic beverage.
I always bring an appetizer and a bottle of something when I go to a party at someone's house.

I agree! In our group of friends, ANYTIME we have a get together of some sort we always bring something...usually whatever we plan on drinking...so if we are drinking beer- we make sure we have at least enough for us and all of our friends do the same
