Poll: Is This Offensive??

Poll: Is This Offensive??

Please give your own personal opinion, not what you think is 'politically correct.'

Woman WK is married with kids
Woman NK is married with no kids

Woman WK says to Women NK .. 'Don't Have Kids' .. not just once, but every month or so, and sometimes in front of her own kids.

Is this offensive behavior?? Does it matter the tone Woman WK uses, or is it offensive no matter what??

Thanks

The tone definitely matters, but regardless of how it's said, and ESPECIALLY in the presence of the speaker's children, I find it to be uncalled for.

that its said so often, seems especially strange.

I guess I can see an off-hand laughing comment made if the kids just played a joke on her or something. And she laughs if off saying 'don't have kids'.

But the way you presented it, sounds very offensive to those children.

I don't think its especially offensive to NK, but I could see it getting annoying.

If I was NK, I would not be offended regardless of the tone used. But, I'd probably lose respect for her and feel sorry for her kids!

Does NK have a fertility problem? I wouldn't be offended per se, but more so saddened every time she said it if I couldn't have kids but wanted them. Also, I think it's horrible that she says it while the kids are around. They're going to have major self confidence/self worth issues when the get older, even if she says it jokingly, since she says it so often.

I dont think it's offensive - except to the kids who may hear that over and over and wonder why Mom feels like that and what they did wrong. With that said, it sounds like a dramatic comment by someone who thinks they have it so hard. Poor them. Boo hoo.

depends on the tone. If it was said in a ha ha kind of way then no. But in a serious discussion I think it is offensive - moreso to the kids.

I had a childhood friend whose mom said this often, and it always bothered me. My friend never said anything about it, but I know it really upset her and her brothers to hear this.

Yes, it's offensive-to the kids!

Has NK ever asked why she feels this way? Or why she says it in front of her children???????????

I agree it was very wrong to say...especially in the presence of children

Re: Poll: Is This Offensive??

If said in a conversation between the two women without the children present then I don't think it is offensive. If said every day, in every conversation then I would find it offensive especially if the other woman wanted children. Said in front of the kids? NOT GOOD!!! While mom might say it laughingly and mean it as a joke, children take this stuff very seriously.

I agree, if it's in a joking manner - ok, I'd tolerate it. But I still think it's wrong to say it in front of your own kids!

It really depends on the manner in which it is said, and if she picks up her kids and smooches them after she says it to show shes joking

Otherwise, I absolutely think thats offensive !

Said jokingly between friends, no not offensive. But to say it in front of the kids is completely wrong!

YES- offensive...esp if it is done repeatedly even IF it is a joke...there is a kernal of truth in that joke for that person
I feel sorry for the kids

Re: Poll: Is This Offensive??

I ran into this situation recently. FH and I went upstate to visit my family, whom he'd never met before, and the whole weekend my two married cousins hounded us with 'Don't get married! It's not too late to back out!' and 'Don't have kids - ever!' They were serious, and they even said this right in front of their own kids. Frank was horrified and couldn't wait to come home. I used to think I was just being super-sensitive, but now I realize how completely offensive it is.

It would offend me but I would be concerned about the feelings of the children.
