I was just wondering whether this debate reconfirmed who you were planning on voting for or not?
I planned on voting for McCain before....and now after watching tonights debate i can with certainty say...that I will 100% be voting for McCain! I think he did a great job addressing all of the issues and questions tonight
ETA: For some reason i put the word 'election' instead of debate in my poll...sorry was typing too fast and you cant edit polls

ITA...at one point DH and I were nearly in tears when McCain was talking about the mother whose son died in Iraq and gave him a bracelet with her sons name on it...the next second we were hysterical...when Obama said 'well i have a bracelet too John'...i dont know why but we were cracking up! We went from nearly crying to laughing
But overall very interesting and good debate! Some great points were brought up.!

Both candidates scare me as well. But I am secure with who I plan on voting for. The debate...in my opinion...didn't have enough 'gusto' either way to sway someones vote.

To be honest, I only watched the first half and then read articles on the rest - I will watch the second half tomorrow since DH has ZERO interest I had to change the channel when he got home.
I was pretty sure of who I was voting for and the debate definitely made me more confident in my decision!

both candidates annoyed me. how many times did they not answer questions? typical politicians!!! and to me, Obama did not physically look good, he's aged. Obama kept saying McCain was right about stuff...i'm like why are you agreeing with him?
I'm still voting McCain....when it comes down to it this is a job interview. Why would you hire someone for a job with hardly any experience?

this really annoyed me too, they did the typical politican move and BS their way through an answer. NEITHER of them were able to answer exactly what they would do to help the financial crisis. And when asked 'what they would have to cut spending on to acheive this' the answer was 'well i'll tell you what i wont cut spending on' that is not what they asked you. I know that was a hard question because you don't want to have to say that education, healthcare or any of those things would get cut and then getting quoted but lets be honest about things. Its scary though because the debate obviously showed that neither of them don't know how to help the financial crisis. Neither of them spoke of actual things that can done.
It helped me a little bit more with my decision, guess i have to see the other debates. Usually there is a candidate that i am completely for and know all along i'll vote for, this election i do not feel like this.
I do have to say that Mccain did a good job of showing his experience. I liked that he talked about so many things he has done for over 20 years to help with national security, and speaking about all the leaders he has met with to help resolve issues. One thing he did that was smart, was saying how there was one thing he was against when they took military action because he knew it would end up badly and it did. Then he spoke about many other times he fully supported it and knew it was the right thing to do and it was successful. Shows that he knows how to handle these type of situations. ALso speaking about going to pakistan, going to russia and having met with leaders and talking to them, he proved his experience in the debate.

After watching the debates it made me still happy to vote for Obama. I think both of them did a good but not great job in the debate. As many news sources are saying no defining moment. I feel just like everyone else there was some treading of the water but for the most part they did what every politician does.
I find it funny that many of you feel that McCain did so well - just (changed from majority because that is not true) a lot of news reports with polls and political analyst feel Obama did well except for foreign policy which I agree this is not Obama's strength to discuss. BUT what Obama did do is point out McCain's plan to give tax breaks to big corporations and poeple making 200k a year will not benefit the economy. How would this? If your a big business yes your taxes are higher then most other countries - BUT - you also have the benefit to write off most of them as expenses unlike other countries. If you make 200k a year and over sorry to say you can pay a bit more then someone who needs a tax break who is making 75k or less.
All and all what I was disappointed with but it could of been that I left the room and didn't witness the one question that I would of like to hear is about Russia giving a loan to Venezuela and how this should be dealt with since its EXTREMELY sim. to the whole Cuba/Russia communist era.
Also yes he did agree with McCain on certain things - it shows he agrees to something when it is correct something that NO ONE seems to ever do in politics. Why? Because he is for a change, a change of this b/s view of sticking with your party. Doesn't matter what you are it matters of what is a good plan for that specific issue.

Re: Poll: Your toughts/feelings on tonights debate?
I'll be honest and have to say that I really dont care what the rich are getting taxed, but only bc my main concern is what I will get taxed. Even if the rich get taxed more money and I also get taxed more money then the only thing I will be concerned about is how much I personally have to pay. I understand what everyone is saying about it, because when it comes down to it, its the taxes i personally will pay that will effect me. Also, unlike the very rich people, i cant donate $100k to charities like many of them do. Then you have people like warren buffet who just gave $5 billion dollars to help this crisis.
Also as a business, if you are making $200k you also have to look at what theyre putting back into the business so many times they can make X amount but they also have to put alot of back into their own business. They have 2 mortgages to pay, they have employee's to pay, supplies or merchandise for their store to pay for.
Also, government spending is a big thing. The philosophy behind a democrats party is more government spending while republicans believe in less government spending. Infact, with the whole bail out thing, the republicans are against this bc they dont think the government should spend tax payers money to bail these people out. Infact they wouldn't even go to the negotations for this and yesterday was the first time they said they'll finally sit down and talk about this but they dont like the plan. They actually have a different plan they want to put through and that would be for the business owners to pay for their own mistakes. Also to extend mortgages and holders of the mortgages to pay off the insurance for it. This I agree with it. There should be another plan business wise that will help the crisis and one that those responsible should take on the burden, not the tax payers.

ITA with your whole post.
As far as the bracelet thing, I feel like McCain bringing up that bracelet was him playing a sympathy card. And he said the bracelet was from a mother who said, 'Dont let my son have died in vain' Obama, to me, was not planning on bringing his bracelet up. BUT since McCain used that card, he brought his up and his bracelet was from a mother who said, 'Dont let another soldier die like mine did' Not the exact words but similar. The reasons behind their bracelets represented their stances on the war. McCain doesnt want to leave until we 'win' (And I quote win because I dont even know what would constitute winning) and Obama doesnt want another soldier to die. That was my take on the whole bracelet thing.
Anyway Im not getting into the rest of the debate because this post is about whether Im still voting for my candidate and after this debate my faith in my candidate is even stronger.
I will say I am looking soooooo forward to the VP debate next Thursday.

Did you watch the part when Obama mentioned going into Pakistan and Afghanistan as soon as possible and sending in more troops b/c there arent enough there? So McCain wants to continue the war with Iraq and Obama wants to send troops 'immediately' to Afghanistan if he becomes president and find Bin Laden...so which strategy is better....kwim? They have differenent views regarding the war issue however at the same time both are in favor of fighting in the middle east.

Yeah Obama did mention sending troops into pakistan and afghanistan. So although he spoke about another soldier not dying, that means only in Iraq but there should be a war in pakistan and afghanistan.

As far as Obama saying to bring troops back into Afghanistan, he wants to bring the war back to where it started and was never finished. We still havent caught Bin Laden and Al Qaida is stronger than ever yet we went into Iraq and are still trying to push stability on them when we never finished what we started in the first place. I would rather our soldiers fight a war that was the original intention than fight in a war that really has no winner or loser. We may help Iraq become a stable nation but it will be short term.

Re: Poll: Your toughts/feelings on tonights debate?
Okay I watched the whole thing and I want to say a few things that bothered me. Of course these are NOT the important things but it botherd me that Obama referred to McCain as John, I thought that was disrespectful AND I wanted to scream at McCain to LOOK at Obama instead of just staring at the mod.
Anyway, glad I watched the whole thing now. I think they both did a great job. I really enjoy listening to Obama speak but I do feel like McCain comes off as more of a 'regular guy.'
I have been watching the polls and Obama is in the lead but the analyst on CNN said that debate viewers are traditionally mostly democrat. That scares me bc does that mean that Republicans arent keeping themselves as informed?
