1. What activites have you done with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom? I know their are a ton of things you can do with this book.
I would love to hear your ideas.
2. This is my first year teaching kindergarten all day. I was previouly a cluster teacher. All my other grades wrote down their own HW. How do give out HW for your class?
Do you print it out for the week or the month?
Also, does anyone have a weekly template that they use?
Thanks, Jen

Re: Pre-K, Kindergarten, Teachers-Need ideas
i'm not a teacher - i'm an SLP, but i can tell you what i've seen in 1 K class for homework...
they had a sheet (held horizontally) that had columns with each day of the week, and then rows with each subject: math, language arts, etc.
each student wrote down their homework for each subject. the teacher wrote it on the board and they copied it into the correct box.
there was also a little smiley face on it.
the teacher had a color behavior chart - and they had to color in the smiley face with whatever color their clothespin was on on the behavior chart (this way the parent knew if the child was misbehaving that day). the color chart was hung in the room and each child had a clothespin with the number on it. they were told 'clip up' or 'clip down' for good and poor behavior/choices throughout the day.
also, underneath each day was a place for the parent to sign.
this paper went into their homework folder, where all homework sheets were kept.
hope this helps!

i loooove chicka chicka boom boom..its great for young children. I think you can get a tape of it as a song..so you can do a little music lesson with it. Maybe even decorate part of the room with palm trees ( the blow up kind from the dollar store) and foam letters in capital and lower case. Maybe incorporate the letters into spelling, like small words they're learning like cat/dog/ even thier names!

homework...maybe get them a seperate folder JUST for that...like write all the assignments down so the parents can get a heads up in the beginning of the week. So when the kids come into school, they have all their homework in that one folder.

Re: Pre-K, Kindergarten, Teachers-Need ideas
I taught Kindergarten Special Ed for years. One idea for using Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is after reading the book, have students cut out a palm tree template. You can either have it pre-traced, or have them trace it- tracing may be a hard skill early in the year. I would put the trunk on brown construction paper and the leaves on green. Then have them glue the pieces on a larger piece of paper. You can then give them letter squares that are in their name and ask them to glue them onto their tree. This is a good assessment to see which students can put the letters in their name in order.
As for H.W., copying from a board is not something they'll be able to do early in the year. I used to give students a weekly packet of various worksheets to do. Some of the general ed teachers give students a monthly calendar with activities listed for each day...one day may say to write their name and numbers 1-10, or to find pictures that are red and glue them in their H.W. books, etc. HTH!

Re: Pre-K, Kindergarten, Teachers-Need ideas
im teaching kindergarten for the first time this year so im reading your thread looking for ideas also haha
I found a weekly homewrk assignment template that we will prob use here:
I am in the same boat as you.....I never had them all day. I think it will be fun and exciting.
What HW assignments will you be giving this week?
Thanks for your help!!!!
the first 2 days the kids are only in for 2hrs in my school, so we are sending a letter that asks the parents to write to us things that we should know about their kid (if u want it, fm me your email address and ill send it to u)
