Pretty upset - just need to vent

Pretty upset - just need to vent

Things have been really rough at my job. . .so I started looking for new opportunities.

One of the companies that I interviewed with (a major LI company), things went so well at the interview. . .they kept me there for 3 hours, met with everyone, they gave me really positive feedback, I really thought I was a good fit for the job. . .

I get a call from my headhunter today, saying that they 'decided not to move ahead'

She gave me some bs excuse, told me it wasn't my fault, that I interviewed well, but they wanted a little more experience of X. . . .

I'm just so shocked and frustrated and really bummed - I liked the group and the job description a lot

Just kind of wanted to vent

The job market is so tight right now its hard for managers to really hire someone. Ive seen it so many times in the last few months here.

You will find something - its a new year

I am so sorry honey. I know you were really excited about it and that you were received well .... but you have another one that went well, right???

We'll drink to new opportunities on Friday.

Thanks girls. . . its just frustrating because it wasn't even a matter of wanting to find SOMETHING.

I really wanted to find the right job for me, and this was just so much of what I was looking for.

I just don't get what really went wrong. . I'm like overanalyzing everything that I said in the interview and trying hard to figure it out.

Maybe part of the problem is that I totally got my hopes up. . .

Yeah, I'm getting an offer from another place - but its just hard to feel out if its the right position for me also. . .I just feel like someone knocked the wind out of me.

Coleen - I know exactly what you are feeling. About three years ago I interviewed at a college for a pr position that was EXACTLY what I wanted. I went to two interviews and then was told they picked someone else. I got choked up on the phone with the interviewer!!!! She and I hit it off immensely - she was GREAT and she had dogs and we talked about dog parks, etc - she was really nice. And I think she knew I was upset on the phone. I just think the other person had a little more experience than me in one area. That might have been the case with this job for you --- they probably loved you (who wouldn't???) but maybe interviewed someone else that had a pinch more experience in a certain area, and knew that they should pick that person BASED ON EXPERIENCE ALONE. Sometimes, it feels RIGHT to pick the person that you get along with better, but if the experience is better with someone else - well, that just makes business sense, you know??

I was devastated when I didn't get the job at the college -- I know how you feel, I do!!!!

But - the headhunter didn't tell me it was for someone else - they have been trying to fill this position for awhile now and they just didn't hire me. . I don't know if that makes it worse or not, I think its just the first time I have ever interviewed for a job and not gotten an offer (Unless I wasn't interested in the position and made that clear)

Oh well - I'll just have to chalk it up to a life experience and move on. (After drinking excessive amounts of wine tonight and most likely crying lol)

no crying!

my guess is that they think that they can get someone super experienced for a job that doesnt need that all that just because of the job market. We were hiring for an entry level job and had all these VPs of marketing apply- my boss was all excited & I was like no, they will leave as soon as the market clears up. Let them look for someone else- it sounds like you were a good match- BUT I really think this happened for a reason and you will find something better!

Same thing happened to my DH...after his 2nd interview that took over 3 hours & he was sure he got it...it was a major co. on LI too...hang in there...something better will come along!

Can you say you feel sick and leave??? Or have you taken a bunch of days recently???

Oh I'm so sorry!!! It's a tough time but I'm sure you will find something. There's probably a reason that it didn't work out-maybe something better is on the way.

But you are pretty sure that if you don't quit first, they'e laying you off, right?? They WANT you to interview - if you find something, they don't have to lay you off or give you a severence package. I wouldn't worry about it too much!

Re: Pretty upset - just need to vent

Coleen that just s*cks. It is always possible that they didn't advertise the job properly and you were over qualified.

That happened to me -- I went on an interview for what I thought was one position and turned out it was really entry level and they just made it sound better.

Don't worry the right job is out there for you!
