I think the way it works is that you own your proofs but your photographer still retains the copyright to them and the negatives (not sure if this is what you're asking though)

Are things getting better with your photographer situation? I hope so!

Yes. We own the rights to our pictures, period. All of the original files (over 5MB each picture X about 1400) were given to us in a hi-res CD unmarked so that we could do as we please.

Yes--we have unmarked proofs (all 700) that are ours. Our photographer has the negatives but that's just so he can make prints easily b/c we will probably order more for the house. We own it all, though.

We own outright all of the 'previews', which are good qualitry proofs. They have the negatives and I'm assuming will charge if we want extra copies, but at most we would only want a few, since we love our previews.

ETA: The previews are unmarked

Yes! We have all unmarked proofs and will get the negatives when they are done with our albums!

My photographers own the right to the photos they took. As far as I know, that is the case with all photographers. Some might give you permission to reproduce them but they still own the copyrights.

all of our digital proofs are ours.
They do have negatives to our non digital proofs, but, I think we can buy them from the photographer if we wanted to.

I believe you need a written statement saying you own the rights, because if you take a proff or even a scanned copy of a proof to a photo store or walmart, they will not copy it for you if they see that it is a professional shot. Mine are unmarked on the front, but on the back it says the name of the studio.

Yes. We own it all. He does not get a copyright on them at all.

He gave us digital files and he gave us a set of high resolution files and a set of smaller files.

We had no issues regarding ownership of these photos.

I love my photog!!!!
