I knew all about it - didn't need it to be a surprise and I needed to fly in for it. As for how I got there, Al took me.

I also knew about mine since I had to fly in for it. I didn't know any of the details though so that was the only surprise part about it. But it was still fun!

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

My MIL invited me to go look at the Irish Coffee Pub for our rehearsal dinner. I figured that had to be it, but when the day came, both my sister (MOH) and Patrick went to work as usual, and I thought I was wrong. It turned out that they both got up and left at their normal times, (Pat at 3:30am!) but hid out somewhere else till shower time (I knew Patrick would be there to surprise me and give me flowers, and then go hang with the 'boys').
So I was surprised even though I had figured it out!

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I had two showers and both were a suprise. My mom had told me 2 months before the shower that she was throwing a suprise party for my Grandmother and wanted me to be there so she was paying for my airline ticket. The day I arrived we even picked up my Uncle from Chicago at the airport so I reallly thought it was a party for my Grandmother. Well the next day we were going to do wedding errands since I was in town so me mom and my MOH go out and my mom says we have to stop at the restaurant for grandma's party I have to make the final payment. So we go, mom says come in with me, I dont want to go by myself. So I go thinking she is just being in one of her moods. As we walk in they make me go first and all I see are these balloons and people with cameras. I'm mortified I think I've walked in on someone's suprise party. Then it registers there all my freinds and family!! I was shocked. That night we did actually have a suprise party for my grandma she had no idea!! My 2nd shower my friends/co workers down here threw me. I had to go to a work thing at one of the managers house and it was on a sunday ( I worked in retail so Sundays are not suspicious) I b*itched the whole way there to my co-worker and said I was not staying yadda yadda and we get there and I walk into Suprise!! Again I had no idea. It was awesome!!

I told everyone not to even try to surprise me, and I even helped with some of the initial planning. Had to do it that way because everyone was in different states!

I was living in Boston, MOH in California and one BM in Chicago. Mom was in Arizona. And none of them were from NY so they didn't even know the area or have friends or family to stay with. Only one BM lived in Manhattan, and my MIL has a small studo coop in Queens. So.... I told them all not to worry about making it a surprise. I ended up putting them all in touch and MOH and the others coordinated things with my MIL.

All in all, it was a great time, though it was mostly hubby's family and a few of my friends. I wish some of my aunts and cousins could have been there, but they too are scattered all over other states.

I knew about my shower because my sister planned it and she was my MOH. I hate surprises and I didn't see the need to have it as one.

However, the rest of the bridal party - another sister and 4 friends - didn't know I knew, so I had to 'pretend' I knew nothing about it. I acted so surprised, but I am sure it came out fake.

How they got me there? My parents took me to brunch to celebrate my new job. Again, I knew this wasn't the case (my parents also knew I knew, but they did this because no one else knew I knew!).

Hindsight is 20-20, but if I had to do it again, I wouldn't want to know. My sister (MOH) has such a hard time planning with my friends (they didn't see eye to eye over several things) and they made her miserable, so she is done planning showers for awhile. I don't blame her. It was hard knowing this strife was going on and not being able to tell my friends (other BM's) that I knew.

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I found out when my FI called and told me that my mother called him and told him that he needed to make an excuse to bring me somewhere on April 13th! (Talk about clueless). Then I thought that he was trying to throw me off, but while at his moms house I saw the invitation which confirmed it was April 13th. A few weeks later my mother slips and says April 13th. Then she starts crying - she felt so bad. So I had to explain that I knew already...blah, blah, blah. When I actually got to the shower everyone was talking (there was no look out for me), so I walked in and said 'HELLOOOO' really loud. They made we walk back out and in. People actually asked if I was surprised - I mean did I look surprised. So funny.

I can actually say that yes I was surprised! The week before my family had gone for a dinner at an irish restaurant and they acted like that was the shower so it totally threw me off. I really thought i was going to my shower that day. The next week we supposedly had a b day party for a child of one of my moms friends...I received the whole fake invitation thingy and everything and even bought the baby a gift. When I got there with my mom and dh, there were b day balloons all over for the baby so I still suspected nothing. I actually couldnt figure out when I walked in why all my friends were at this babys party. The weirdest things run through your mind!

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

As you all know, I was living in CA, so I only had a limited number of weekends that I'd be in NY....so, by process of elimination, it became easy to figure out.

But, I did not have the brightest BP to speak of. My MOH calls me in CA just weeks before the shower, asking me what she should tell my friends/relatives when they RSVP - should they send my gifts to CA, or bring them to the shower??? Hello? If they were going to SHIP them to CA, why on earth would I be having a shower in NY??? What would I do w/o any gifts to open?? LOL!

Also, my friends/family didn't really coordinate their 'stories' well, and I ended up getting phone calls from several different people, all happening to ask what my plans were while I was scheduled to be home THAT weekend....AND, they all, strangely, had plans to be out-of-town. I immediately knew the date when another friend called and randomly invited me to lunch that weekend, without specifying the location. It couldn't have been more obvious. Oh, well.

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I was totally not surprised at all. My mom blurted the date right out to me. I also had an out of town friend staying with me that weekend, AND she was supposed to be coming with me to meet up with my mom for lunch for this 'surprise' that I totally knew about. Actually, I'm glad I knew about it. A few friends made it in from out of town, and because I knew which weekend it was, I was able to see them for more than just the few hours of the shower, since I was able to know when they'd be in town for it, so it made it more special for me.
