I found out about it. They got me there on the premise that I was dropping Mark off for his party. I acted surprised though!

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I was not suppossed to know, but my step-mom called me the week before to tell me she could not come because her Mom had to have emergancy surgery out of state. She starts going into the whole story about how she's so sorry but my gifts will be there & she'll make it up to me , blah, blah, blah..... so I said 'cindy-don't say anything else because i don't know when it is-I think they're trying to surprise me' She felt really bad. Anyway it was that Saturday. A day or two later my cousin who works for my accountant calls me to say she has a bunch of stuff I need to sign & mail out, can I come to her office in Port Jefferson on Saturday @ 1:00? When I got to her office(I had Nicole with me) my cousin said'you guys want to have lunch @ the printers devil?' So we walked over there. So I knew that was the day-I just played along though because I knew they were trying really hard to surprise me & I didn't want to be a b*tch. I was flipping a little because I knew we didn't have Nicole that weekend & I knew she'd be so sad if she missed it, so when Rich brought her home on Friday night I was positive. I asked Rich to confirm it & he wouldn't give me any info. So I left the house Saturday dressed for my shower. I was so surprised anyway by some people that came from really far & how many people that couldn't make it send amazing gifts. Even the things people made for us were such a surprise. It was really my dream shower-my Mom & my friends did a great job!

My girl friend had asked if we could get together and have lunch at the Duck Pond Inn. Now, knowing she normally works Saturdays I was able to figure out it must be that day. Then this guy I work with (who I can't stand) says to me so I'll work the weekend of your shower and you work the following weekend for me. So, that also gave it away. I was still so surprised though when I got there and saw how many people were there and all the gifts.

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I had my shower in June and got married in October so needless to say I was very surprised. My sister said that she was having a Father's day BBQ on the Saturday before Fathers Day because she wanted to spend it with both sides of her family and it would be easier to do it that day. I told her that was fine with me and what could I bring. Well, I was supposed to make maccaroni salad but I was too busy the night before to do it, so I bought 3 lbs of it at the supermarket, put it in one of my own bowls and decorated it with tomatos!! Well when we walked in and I realized that i was my shower, I told Harry to get rid of the mac salad and quick!! He didnt know why. I told him that everyone raves about my cooking, and here I show up with store bought salad!! To this day my sister still rips into me about it!!

I have to say, I am a very nosey person and I didnt think they were going to be able to surprise me!!

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I found out about mine by accident as well. I had received an email notification that something someone had bought from one of the registries was on backorder. So I was trying to figure out the day, and I had a general idea that it was coming, but I had no idea where it was going to be.
They got me there by saying we (DH & I) had to pick up the pizza for the party we were going to. They had my shower at the place where I used to work as a kid, which is a pizza place/restaurant. They closed it for the day just for me.

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I insisted I knew the date and location - I'm really bad with surprises! Plus, my sister was flying in from out of state, and I rarely get to see her anyway, I'd hate for her to have to hide from me for such a stupid reason.

So, I first knew the date and location (my cousin's gorgeous home!) but then it was almost like a free-for-all - my BMs started telling me everything, and I really didn't need or want to know the problems, theme, etc. :(

It was still worth it though - I was really stressing about being in the spotlight all day, and knowing the date made me stress less. My FH drove me out there, greeted everyone, and then left.

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

The week before my shower my Father called and said he wanted to take the whole family out to dinner on Sunday and to meet at the house at 3:00. Not unusual, so I really didnt think anything of it.

John and I got dressed for dinner. We had an appointment to stop off at PaPa Joes to take a look at the place for our rehersal dinner at 1:00. We went there and were finished with everyting in about 45 minutes so I figured we would just head to my parents house which is about 15 minutes away tops. John starts stalling - he wants to go to Kohls. Now this man Never, NEVER wants to shop so all of a sudden I knew something was up. I didnt say anything to him just went along with it. When we pulled up to my parents house there was this huge tent in the backyard that you could see from the street so the jig was up.

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I knew, but only because I had been faked out once.

A really funny story so I'll tell it.

DH's dad retired and his company (which my DH also works for) threw him a retirement party. It was on a Saturday morning at 11AM at California Cafe in Roosevelt field and the whole family was invited.

I thought this sounded strange for a retirement party so I just assumed it was my shower. To top it all off, my in-laws (future at the time) started asking me what I was going to wear, etc. Then, the morning of the party, they called us about 5 times.

On the way there, we were early - totally not us, and DH decided to stop for Starbucks (we never do that)

I was convinced that this was my shower and they were just making sure I was going to be there and at the right time.

I got there - Retirement party!!!! I was so embarrassed and disappointed. I didn't tell anyone until after my shower!!!

PS my shower was several weeks later and I was not surprised. It was beautiful though and I pretended to be surprised to make my mom happy - she thew the shower. It was beautiful.

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

My wedding was planned in 6 months, so as it got closer to the date, I knew it had to be coming up. My friend from Mass. and another friend who lives here told me that the one from Mass was coming to NY and they were going to take me out to lunch since we hadn't gotten together in a while. My sister kept telling me to leave a certain date free to go to my aunts in NJ (which happened to be the weekend after the lunch date with my friends). So, they were trying to trick me about the dates, but I knew it had to be soon, since it was about amonth before my wedding.

My friends came to pick me up for lunch, and as soon as I got in the car, I was almost positive about where we were going, since they were both dressed up, but I still wasn't quite sure. They had also decided on where to go for lunch without really asking me, and when we went into the restaurant, the host asked smoking or non, and they said smoking right away, so he took us into the back room, and there it was!!

The shower was wonderful, but for the first time in my life, I realized I do'nt like surprises and was very uncomfortable being on the spot with opening the gifts and everything. I told my sister that I don't want my baby shower to be a surprise.

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I called my sister Lizanne the weekend of my niece Lizzy’s b-day to see if she was cutting her a cake or anything. She tells me no because Lizzy will be with her father that weekend. She was coming to LI the next weekend to our sister Bernie’s house where she was going to have Lizzy’s B-day party at to celebrate to the family and to come up on 8/3/02 Saturday. I had to work so I told her I will not be there until 5:30pm.

I went to the mall that week brought Lizzy and b-day gift to bring with me after work on 8/3/02.

At work on 8/3/02 my boss suddenly comes up to me at 4:30pm and tells me to go home because he needs me to work an extra 30 mins next Saturday because they were going to be in a meeting during that time. I said ok and started heading towards my sister house at 4:30pm. During this time I started thinking to myself that I didn’t work next Saturday, what was my boss talking about?

I arrived at my sister’s house and she wouldn’t let me go through the front door. She had me go through the side door that leads to the backyard. As soon as I walked in everybody yelled surprise and starting taking pictures. They were all laughing because I walked in with a b-day present.

I didnt know th eexact daye, I just knew when Jay told me that we were all going out to brunch with his family. Jay drove me there, and as soon as we pulled up to the restuarant (Mario's) I saw familiar cars. My heart started to pound, and thought I was going to cry.
It was a great time

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

jenn has shower fever - good for you - you should be excited.

I rec'd an invite to my aunt/godmother's retirement party (the real party is tomorrow!). I knew my shower was coming but I wasn't sure exactly when (suspected that night but wasn't sure) ... I actually thought it was the next day. What threw me off was they threw a Saturday night shower and my mom spent the entire day with me. My mom planned most of my shower and I know she does a lot at the last minute (normal way of being) so I couldn't believe she went for my hair and makeup trial that day and I was in her house with her. I kind of felt bad because I had hair and makeup trial issues and was likemom this is the only day we can go! Little did I know that she had so much to do yet for my shower....But it was all wonderful (excpet the shower planning - I knew more of the horror stories than I should and they should not have occurred!!!)

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I did know about my shower, although I tried to act surprised. The planning stage was difficult for my sister & mom b/c my mil lives overseas and sil lives in PA. I got married in November and knew my inlaws weren't coming to america until September. I figured Oct. was too close to the wedding and so it would have to be in Sept.

In other circumstances, I would have fallen for it....my friend invited me to a sports luncheon (which is normal, since we both work in the sports industry). Luncheons are very routine in our business. Oh well.....enjoy it either way.

Best of luck to you.....

Re: QOTD for Feb. 14th

I pretty much knew because I made a trip to PA from Florida. And then me and my MOH and another BM drove to NJ to see another of my BM's new house...but they were able to surprise me with my family!!! My grandmother, 3 aunts, 2 cousins and my cousin's new baby (who I had not gotten to see yet) all drove from LI to NJ to surprise me...But the best of all...MY MOM was there too! She had flown out of Florida the day after me to NY and made the drive with the family to be there with me.

I was so upset thinking she wouldn't be there with me so when I saw her it was the best gift I could get.
