QOTD: Money or memories?

Original post by Sonicstef

Imagine this:

A fairy comes to you with an offer to give you DOUBLE what your wedding cost in exchange for the experience/memories/momentos. You will still be married but have no memory of the wedding day, no photos or anything. You are never allowed to have a vow renewal or do anything to recreate a wedding for the rest of your life. In exchange you get DOUBLE what you spent. So if you spent 20K, you get 40K in cash right now.

Do you take that offer?

Money..our wedding was beautiful and I loved it as it was happening but now it only brings back a lot of bad memories and maybe if we had the money instead I could have given a dieing man what he needed...better healthcare, nicer place to live, money for more good memories with him...

Roger would have taken the money and I would take the memories. He never wanted a big wedding with the whole hoopla and what not, I was the one that wanted it. When we went to get our marriage license he said honey for $25 we could have all this, a gu standing out front with a fake bunch of flowers and an instant camera of for an additional $10 that is

I did think about it for a while...and you know what...

with the inflations, this $40K can turn into $40, but the memories will alway have the same high value to the married couple and their families!

Great question Stef...

I'd take the memories though because that money wouldn't make or break me (we didn't spend a TON of money on our wedding anyway) and sure I might be able to buy a house but I'd rather live in a small apartment and be happy knowing that day can be relived in my memories forever...

Absolutely no chance in hell.

I don't think that you can put a price on certain once in a lifetime type memories and your wedding day would be one of those one time things...

Memories because they can't be replaced by any amount of money.

memories. The money's not worth it. It wouldn't be enough to make a difference, and the memories have made a huge impact on my life. I don't ever want to forget my wedding day.

Money's just money. It's not worth anything to me.

Is the money tax free??

I know taxes are necessary, but a recent incident with a check that included a union settlement left us very unhappy once all the taxes were taken out.

And to go even further off topic .. why is it we lose so much of our income during the year to taxes, and yet so many of us still owe at the end of the year???

One final downer .. the unemployment rate hit its highest level in 9 years .. and took its biggest one month increase since the September 11 attacks.

With that said .. getting back on track .. I think I'd have to say I'd take the money .. it may not seem like life altering money .. but hubby and I know financially now is definitely not the time for us to have kids .. and we're not sure when that might be .. so the money surely would help .. especially with the right investing.

And if there is anything that is priceless ... it would be having a child with my husband .. but I won't do it until we are financially secure for that added responsibility. That money would be a big boost.

I would take the money. The wedding was a beautiful day but its no where close to as happy and exciting as our marriage. Each day our love just grows and grows.

Re: QOTD: Money or memories?

We took both. We had an inexpensive long island wedding with 100 friends and family and it was everything I could have ever wanted. It didn't break the bank at all.

So, naturally I would take the memories we did everything for between 25,000- 30,000 and that is with the postponement and all the extra fees for reprinting and empty seats (thanks USAF!)

Asking this right now I would love to answer the $$ because we are looking for a bigger house however no amount of $$ could replace the memories of our wedding day. Not even enough to buy a new house in cash!!
