I always write mom and dad on cards... but I really don't call them anything!!!

dh husband fills out there cards. i can't call them mom and dad since my parents are still alive. even if they weren't i don't think i would be able to do it

On the cards I usually write Mom but in person I call her by her first name.

I write mom & dad on cards but call them by there first name. My DH sometimes calls my parents mom & dad and sometimes Mr. & Mrs.

After we got married I had a hard time calling them Mom and Dad but after my FIL passed away it became so easy to call my MIL Mom. I would never be able to call her by her first name. I refer to her as Mrs. R---- when I talk about her to my Mother.

my DH's dad passed away years ago.
I call my MIL by her 1st name. she's not my mom, I don't feel right calling anyone else but my mom, 'mom'.
DH also calls my parents by their 1st names.

i know they really wanted me to call them mom and dad, but it just felt sort of wrong, considering i have a mom and dad!
So, I found a nice compromise. For the most part, when I speak to them, its by first names.
However, for cards and emails, or when I'm first seeing them or saying goodbye, I call her 'MOMMA' and him 'POPS' in this sort of joking/affectionate way. (like 'hey pops! how was the drive?') I don't think I would be able to do it in conversation, but its a nice halfway point.
They are significantly older than my parents, and are grandparents already, so the names suit them.
They love it, and have begun signing emails and cards that way!
