QOTD: Would you ever shower at the gym?

My answer is no, unless I went during lunch break and couldnt go home to shower. My main point of this is every time I go in to the locker room at my gym I cringe when I see how many people are in there stark naked and just going about their business. And I am not talking about 1-2 people I am talking like 10-12

Situation one- a lady is stark naked and bent over putting lotion on her legs

Situation two - another lady is toweling off her bush. Ewwww

Situation three - another lady with only a towel wrapped around her waist, saggy boobs showing, is blow drying her hair.

Why dont these people go home and shower at HOME! I think it may be because they are using the pool but still I would go home first and not use some dirty locker room shower. Secondly, cover up alittle...no one wants to see your ugly naked self! Ugh! Ok vent over.

PS - I have nothing against asians but wanted to note that many of these people are asian.

I was a member of NYSC for years and I always used to shower there. I would go either during my lunch break or after lunch. With NYSC you definitely pay for what you get. The showers are extremely clean, they have soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, towels the works. When I would go near my job I would always shower so I wouldn't either go back to work or take the train sweaty. Once I started going to Lucille Roberts Hell no! Those bathrooms are gross so I would go once I got home from work and shower at home.

ughh i have to agree with you about lucille roberts- i wouldnt even think about using their showers- its nasty!

I have showered at the gym Sometimes if I go in the morning on the way to work I will roll out of bed with my bag packed and get ready there. Its just to much to go all the way back home again. I go to NYSC and honestly its spotless and always clean

When I go after work I dont shower until I get home. BUT I never walk around stark naked, I cover up and I use the dressing area that has doors

just re-read ur post, most people that do it at my gym are asian as well.

haha..this is because us Americans are so uptight about nudity & our body image...every other culture will prance around naked & not give a crap..

I have, but that was b/c my hot water heater broke at home and it was either that or walk around smelly until it got fixed.

No...but I live so close I'd never need to. The locker room is always so clean, the whole gym is so if I had to I wouldnt mind but no need.

I do have to agree with you. Even though I haven't gone when I first joined and was shown around I did find them to be clean. And like you said, they are well stocked with everything. The had the dispensers on the wall filled with everything. For a gym I was pretty impressed.

I always shower at the NYSC b/c I always go before work and it would be very incovenient to go home and shower. the bathrooms are always spotless but i'm neither 1, 2, or 3 i haven't belonged to another gym in 5 years so I don't know what the other gym bathrooms look like.

same for me when i lived in queens....i went to nysc in the city and i had no choice but to shower there. they really do a good job of keeping it clean so i had no problems with it. but you are right about 1, 2 and 3.....i've seen all of those things occur and its a little skeevy! now that i live in westchester, i can drive to the gym and come home after to shower! yay!

I did in college/ grad school when I was at the gym in the morning and lived off campus. It wasn't really that bad, except when people would use the shower right next to yours instead of the one across the room (these were the showers where several were mounted around a pole)...that was always a little claustrophobic to me.

I wouldn't because I would just rather use my own shower and I don't like the idea of trying to get changed in front of other people. I've seen what you're talking about though. I was in the locker room with my mom and this woman had just finished getting dressed when another woman in the fitting room inspired her to take her bellydancing class. So the woman changes back into her gym clothes and her boobs are hanging out. the whole time she's having a conversation with me, my mom and the belly dancing instructor like she's fully dressed and you can tell we all felt very awkward and kept looking in all different directions. Very strange moment. I also noticed that asian women feel a little more 'free' in the locker room.

Ahh no, the only time I did is when they turned off the water in my apt and I needed to shower before work. Only in that kind of extreme situation would I do it. Even then, I didn't encounter anything like that. I try to avoid the locker room at all costs, I will run without a jacket to the gym just so I don't have to use the locker, its too much of a hassle waste of time to me. I use too many products to have to carry all my crap with me everywhere.

i shower at my gym and i walk around in my underwear in the locker room. i see women naked, blowdrying hair, getting dressed, putting on makeup--the works but it doesnt bother me.

it's just the female body....as long as they werent doing anything obscene i cant see the problem with it--its a women's locker room!

I haven't been to the gym for ... about 3 years now but I used to go to the NYSC in Huntington Village and I didn't see any of the stuff you mentioned. It was pretty empty, usually just me and 1 other person in the locker room. I always showered at the gym because it saves me time but I don't walk around naked. In fact, I'm very discreet.

Funny that you posted it tonight. I almost always shower at the gym. My gym has a sauna, and when I have time to, I like to take advantage of it, so then I have to shower after. There is usually a woman who is constantly cleaning, so the showers are always clean. The gym provides towels, shampoo/conditioner, etc.
Well, today, I went from 7-8:30 and the gym closes at 9. at 8:30 I was going to sauna and shower, but for some reason, I noticed the locker room was a mess - towels everywhere and stuff. So then I checked out the showers (there are only 3) and they were all gross. It looks like the cleaning woman went home early, so no sauna and shower for me tonight

I really get upset when people leave their towels and stuff all over the place - I think that is just so rude and classless.

I shower at the gym pretty often.
I haven't seen anything disgusting at all at my gym... it's always been very clean & convenient.
I do NOT walk around naked though at all... I'm very careful about how I change into & out of my clothes.

At one point, I always showered at the gym. The main reason was because the temperature of the shower at my parents' house was freezing and I dreaded showering there during the cold winter months. I would bring my own soap, shampoo, conditioner, and towel.
