With the last 'Big' holiday around the corner... What are some traditions that you look forward to? What are some things that you look forward to passing on to your children? Is there anything you would like to add?

Re: QOTD1- March 24- Holiday Traditions
-I look forward to passing on Greek Easter to my children. Although I was not confirmed Greek, My father is and we look forward to the dinner every year. I also would love to pass down the 'Pajama' tradition from Christmas eve . One thing I would LOVE to begin is the 'Elf On The Shelf' every year with my kids. That and St. Nicholas Day (We started it in my houseand I woul dlove to continue it)

no big traditions really, just the usual
my mom got upset one year because me and my brother were both in relationships that it was hard to get everyone together, so on easter, since she knows we have a million different stops to make, she has breakfast at her house and we have an easter egg hunt!!

Re: QOTD1- March 24- Holiday Traditions
I LOVED Easter baskets. My mom switched it up every year. Sometimes she set it up like a scavenger hunt, other times just a hunt.
Our family tradition was very laid back. We are not super religious. We used to spend Easter week down in Florida with my grandparents. They had a house on the Gulf so it was great. We would get up in the morning hunt eggs and then hit the beach or the pool at my grandfather's tennis club. Then we would go out for dinner.
I would love to continue on that tradition but my mom is hoping to sell that house. Taxes on the gulf are to much and Florida property values are MUCH different then when my grandparents bought the gulf front house for less then my current little house would have cost at the time. So I think we will probably make our own traditions. But I will always do easter eggs and baskets.
One tradition I do have and love though is making egg bread with my mom. The recipe by the way is in the cookbook.

By the way, your picture reminds me... did you know Ritas has Peeps Ice now. Its super sweet and bright yellow. It's fun but it turns my hands yellow when I serve it.

For Easter, my mom always made molded chocolates with us...I've already started making mine for this year & I was just telling DH that I cant wait to do it with our kids! I cant wait to color eggs for our first married Easter too!
I cant wait until we make our own traditions with our kids and their grandparents. Except I still have to have Christmas w/ my extended family (My mom has a lot of siblings & I have a lot of cousins) I cant imagine a quiet Christmas day

Re: QOTD1- March 24- Holiday Traditions
In my household, we do cold cuts and deli salads for Christmas Eve, and Chinese food on Easter...neither of which I think will be passed down, as long as my parents are around, since we'll be going there for those holidays. my deal was that we spent Christmas Eve with my family and Catholic Easter with mine, provided it doesn't fall on the same day as Greek Easter that year. This year and next year they fall on the same day, so my mom is pissed, and I am too kinda...I want my lo mein! But then she'll get me like the next 4 years in a row, so it's ok...this year we're making our famous pastitio for Easter, and the whole family will get to try it.

Greek Easter - I didnt know your dad was Greek Jenny! We will have to get our red eggs & crack them to see who has the strongest egg - the Greek & Russian easter is the same - so it's nice to know I have someone to celebrate with!!!

It actually does taste like them, but its super sweet. It even smells sweet. Its more noticable how sweet the flavor is in an ice then in a small candy. I had a small the other day and I couldn't eat it all. But kids LOVE it!

Hmm. . well I love that my mom always made cinnamon rolls on easter morning - they are homemade and delicious and I want to do that for sure. . (and the general egg hunt etc)
I also grew up celebrating passover and will def want to do that. . we did the service but a modified version that focused more on freedom and oppression and I always loved that as a kid. . being aware of how lucky we were to have the freedoms we do and thinking of others who didn't!
I don't know what new traditions will come. . I'm sure there will be TONS!

oh so many! DH and I are both Christmas freaks so decorating the tree and taking drives to see the Christmas lights is a given - when I was a kid my parents used to load us in the car in our pj's with blankets and hot chocolate and we go for long rides. I loved it.
For Easter, it's all about the easter baskets! I'm 41 and my mom still makes me an easter basket every year. I've been making one for her and my sisters for years and DH got his first basket on our first easter together.....poor baby the Easter Bunny stopped coming for him when he was about 7
