So we are throwing my friends shower....100% paying for it and everything...
her mom just e-mailed me and asked if all of the guests could wear nametags....has anyone wore nametags at a shower??? (or am i the only one that finds it odd) I personally feel everyone going are grown women and should be capable of introducing themselves to one another and mingling plus it also makes it look like the Bride requested it b/c she doesn't know the grooms side or something lol
Either way if you or know of anyone that has worn nametags at a shower.... anyone use cute ones?
OR do you think I should just NIX the nametags and play this ice breaker game (& make everyone introduce themselves outloud)
Memories
This sentimental and emotional game. All the guests have to sit around in a circle and starting from the person to the left of the bride everyone states what they most fondly remember about the first time they met the bride or they're most cherished memory about friendship or their happiest memory.
I don't know why I find nametags so odd, but I just do.

Re: Question about my friends shower....
LOL I havn't been to many showers, but Ive never seen or heard of people wearing nametags at them. Usually I find that people mingle in the beginning and introduce themselves.

Re: Question about my friends shower....
I haaaaaate wearing nametags, but that's just me. That said, I agree with you that grown women can introduce themselves. And all the showers I've been, including my own, the moms/sisters or someone in the family usually takes care of the important introductions, but honestly, not everyone at the shower NEEDS to know each other. Like work friends of your mom don't need to meet MIL's second cousin, know what I mean?
I'm not a fan of the memory game....i like to keep it light and unstructured, and not put people on the spot at parties. Also, some women may not have even met the bride. MIL's work friends were at my shower and I'd never met them a day in my life, the memory game would have been embarrassing for them when it was their turn and they would have to say 'pass'.
Is there any way you can just 'forget' to make the nametags or is that out of the question?

Re: Question about my friends shower....
My bridesmaids wanted to have nametages for my shower & as soon as I found out I put an end to that idea FAST.... It's a happy day & people will take it upon themselves to introduce themselves.

Hmm, name tags it can be a new trend -
but I think your idea of an ice breaker is nice because people can say how they know the bride...and give a memory

LOL--- that's what I think. I don't think everyone needs to who Every single person is ya know. Maybe her Mom asked because she knows no one? I don't know.....???? Her mom also asked to have the relationship to the bride on the nametags (lol)
See I was thinking the memory game to avoid nametags (b/c I with you HATE nametags)...I feel like I should honor her Moms request in some way & I know that everyone the Bride invited she does know.
I don't mean to laugh at her request but.......

Ditto. I have to admit, if I attended a shower and they gave me a nametag to wear I wouldn't wear it.

Re: Question about my friends shower....
I have been to God knows how many showers and I have never seen that. And I might add, if I did see that, I would not wear it b/c I spent time and effort picking out my cute outfit to wear to the shower and a tacky name tag will not be an accessory!
I don't mean to sound rude when I say this, but honestly, who cares who all the women are anyway? They are going for the bride. Who gives a crap who the groom's mom's cousin's neighbor Edna is? If it was a small affair of less than 20 women I can see why someone, especially MOB would want to do that. Otherwise, I would pretend to have forgotten the nametags at home.

Re: Question about my friends shower....
I've never worn a nametag to a shower but if the MOB requested it I wouldn't have any problem wearing one. We used to wear them all the time at GTGs and we're all grown women!! The woman who made them would put cute things on them like an e-ring, or wedding cake, etc. You could make them up like that so at least they were 'festive'.

Re: Question about my friends shower....
Dev, I'm with you on the no nametags for a shower. Like you said, everyone doesn't need to know who EVERY single person is, because they're there to celebrate the BRIDE, not specifically to make new friends (although that would be a plus).
I would avoid the memory game if you have a large # of people because it could take forever. Also, some people do NOT like any form of public speaking so they might feel mighty uncomfortable.
I introduced people to each other at my shower and it was fine!

Exactly what I was thinking Yesi
Also with the memory game, a lot of people may not know the bride that well so it may not work. I know at my shower I was introducing myself to people I had never met before!

Re: Question about my friends shower....
There were name tags at my bridal shower. I didn't plan it. But honestly, nobody seemed to mind. It's your call. didn't bother me, didn't seem to bother anyone else. Unless they where just polite enough to keep it to themselves.

Re: Question about my friends shower....
I havent seen it done, but my mom was suggesting it for my shower. They were going to put the persons name and how they knew me (since thats what everyone asks anyway) they ended up not doing it though

Re: Question about my friends shower....
I've never heard of that, but I have to say I HATE the memory game more then the name tags. as silly as the name tags are, its a lot LESS uncomfortable, then putting people on the spot on how they know the bride, especially if they have never met her and are invited because its hers moms co-workers, etc. And there are people who may not have a story to tell.... I hate the idea of the name tags, but would much rather that then being put on the spot.. If you do use them, skip the 'how do you know the bride' part on the name tag, that's just gay

I don't like name tags - but how about if you got pins for the mother of the bride and groom

Re: Question about my friends shower....
I have never been to a shower with nametags or an intro game....The hosts normally walked around and introduced people they thought would get alonga nd then introduced family's to eachother if they didn't know onenother.(?)
