I had my wisdom teeth out on Wednesday. All 4 of them were impacted so I got put under for the procedure and it all went really well. But now, 4 days later, I'm still in so much pain. I talked to my surgeon today and he said today will probably be the peak of the pain because the swelling is starting to go away and blah blah blah. I'm just wondering, for the ladies out there who have had their wisdom teeth out, what was your recovery time like?? I mean, I know everyone is different with pain and some procedures are more invasive than others, but I'm just trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel here and at this point it seems like I'm going to be in pain for the rest of my lifeee!!!!!!

Re: Question about WISDOM TEETH
I had two teeth removed from my right upper jaw last year. One was impacted, the other was a molar. I was in pain for over a week and I usually have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I know other people who have been fine within a few days. I think it varies from person to person.

Re: Question about WISDOM TEETH
I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled at once. For me, it wasn't so bad. I was in pain for maybe 3 days or so if that. I was swollen for about 5-7 days but it wasn't terrible for me. I guess everyone is different but don't worry I'm sure you will start to feel better real soon.

I felt about the same. A few days of bad pain and then another week of soreness. Did your doctor give you a prescription for med. for the pain? If it continues, I would call them back, but hopefully it will just start to ease up on its own.

Yeah, he gave me Vicodin, and also 600mg Ibuprofen. I've been kinda slow taking the Vicodin, meaning just taking a half at once, because I haven't really been able to eat anything significant and I didn't want to get nauseous. But I just had some oatmeal and took my first whole dose of Vicodin so hopefully that will help with the pain.

Re: Question about WISDOM TEETH
hey! i will be a dentist in may and it is true that the it usually takes about a week to feel better and peak pain is usually at around 72hrs. but if your pain keeps getting worse, you should call the surgeon again. hope u feel better!

Yay...a dentist! (well soon to be dentist but what's the diff lol) It's basically just my bottom jaw thats really bothering me, like radiating pain. And the pain is not only where my wisdom teeth were, its my entire bottom jaw that hurts! The top ones don't hurt at all. And something else thats strange, I still have numbness on the right side of my chin up to my lip...I hope I don't have nerve damage!!

Yup...thats exactly what they told me too. And DH was pushing me and pushing me to get them done. So I finally agreed that I would get them done after the wedding. I just cant believe I actually went through with it finally because I put it off for 5 years. It's not a pleasant experience, but you should really get them done sooner than later. They say the longer you wait and the older you get, the healing time and pain tend to be worse. Good luck!

Re: Question about WISDOM TEETH
I had two impacted wisdom teeth pulled and it was painful for a few hours and then that's it! And I'm a wussy when it comes to pain. It did feel sore for like two days but not painful. I was not put under though, just general anesthesia.

The funny thing is, the 2 bottom ones, regularly swell to the point where I cant eat, cant open my mouth and look like I got hit in the face with a bat...VERY painful but i still just cant. I went to a surgeon and I nearly passed out just getting over the xray Im sooooooooo scared. I know i have to get it done...i will...one day

hey! it could be muscle pain from keeping your mouth open for so long. if that is the case then it will hurt for a few days and will get better. unfortunately, it could also be nerve damage...hopefully not permanent. your tooth may have been close to the nerve and may have been moved a little when you were getting the tooth out. most of the time this numbness goes away over time, but sometimes it doesnt. if your pain gets progressively worse make sure you call your dentist. i hope you feel better. -sue

Re: Question about WISDOM TEETH
oh, i forgot to mention. my teeth were impacted as well and i was in pain for about a week since i had some bone drilled away to get the teeth out. i also had something called trismus (couldnt open my mouth all the way), but it eventually went away. everybody heals a little differently, but when your teeth are impacted...it is harder to take teeth out and healing time is usually longer.

Re: Question about WISDOM TEETH
I had all 4 pulled at once and 2 were impacted. The 2 that were impacted took me about a week or so to recover from and about 2 weeks to eat normally...sorry to scare u hahaha...but I think it's normal...it'll get better tho!!

Re: Question about WISDOM TEETH
I had an extra wisdom tooth, so I had 5 done at once and it only took about a week for the majority of the pain to go away. I was so terrified of getting things stuck in the gaps though that I think I waited another week after that before eating solid foods (but I guess the advantage of getting it done in august was that it wasn't too cold for icecream!)

Re: Question about WISDOM TEETH
I ended up with dry socket so the pain lasted about 2 weeks!!! I had to go in every other day for them to stuff the holes with these gores soaked in clove oil
