Question: DH and Gifts?

Does your DH usually get you exactly what you want? Mine always gets all excited about a gift that he's gotten for me and when I get it, it's usually not the biggest thrill of my life. Is that terrible?

My birthday is a week from tomorrow and I'm just wondering what he's gotten for me, he says there are four gifts!!! and I found a receipt on the floor and I think he got me pearl earrings!! .... Very sweet, but I don't think I've ever mentioned pearl earrings to him before. I don't really like anything that will stick out too much on my ears and I do have a pair somewhere...what do I do???

i have the same problem... for MONTHS i've been begging to see Wicked for my birthday (sept 19). Then i saw an email from ticketmaster (we share outlook and his folder was up) and i happened to see what it was for... and it's not Wicked. Its for a concert for a person i've seen already. how do i feign excitement? I had my heart set on Wicked. who knows, maybe he told my parents to get me tix. (crossing fingers)

it's the thought that counts...and I'm lucky in that DH picks out pretty nice things. This past year for my b-day I got white gold, heart shaped earrings with diamond chips in the middle and a new watch and a CD I wanted and a nice dinner out and then for X-mas I got a diamond heart pendant from Zales....I'm NOT a big fan of the heart shape anything! (at least since I was like 13) BUT...I did tell him once that jewelry is always good.....

Sorry girls....but maybe say 'Oh...what made you think of pearl earrings??' and see what he says...he might say 'my mother said you would like them'

yeah, i know its the thought, but it makes me realize he never listens to me! LOL I'll just have to wait for xmas. hehe

i do have to say he's a much better gift giver than his family! they give such crappy stuff. Its like they do their holiday shopping at dollar stores. They mean well, but they don't have the best taste.

it was right in front of me... how could i not... it was way too tempting!! I don't think thats the only gift... so its only one surprise ruined. hehe (i hate surprises anyway)

DH usually ruins surprises too. He just gets so excited with things he buys me so he just tells me! LOL (or i usually catch on cuz he asks me silly questions like 'Do you like so and so? someone here at work likes a song from them' Come on!! lol)

I was always a peeker... i would search for my christmas presents every year. Eventually i would just search, then once i found them i wouldn't look. It was the thrill of the hunt.

i hate surprises, but yet ive always wanted a surprise party! never had one... told dh i want one for my 30th! haha

DH has been 50/50 on gifts I like. For 1st year he got me a VS gift cert. After I had major abdominal surgery. I was like 'oh...goody.' But we only knew each other for a few months and he dind't know what else to get.
2nd year I got a georgeous bracelet (that was stolen ) but also some ugly sweaters and some Buffy the Vampire books (I liked the show, not into reading the books). Thought that counts thought that counts. This past year I pretty much told him what I wanted. No surprise but I got them. This year I REALLY want an ipod but since we got alot of trips coming up I don't think I'm getting anything which is OK.
ETA on the pearls issue - wait until you see them. Maybe they are small or not too roundish or hanging so they don't stick out. Would he get insulted if you wanted to exchange them? Bring him with you to involve him in choosing another pair.

my dh usually just asks me and i do get what i want after that but sometimes i would like to see what he would come up with on his own. he once surprised me with stevie nicks tickets and i was soo excited he needs to get back on that track lol.

if you dont like the earrings you can always say that you have a wierd allergic reaction to pearl and return them

I pick out my own gifts. This works well for us- it saves him stress and I get what I want!

He did buy me a pair of beautiful earrings on his own though.
