Original post by MSCJLK

Since we are on the topic of MIL ....
DO you have a good relationship? and does she treat you differently now that you are married/engaged?

I have a good realtionship with my MIL but she has a very low self esteem becauae of the was her children treat her...My SIL is not very nice to her mother..she gets it from my DH and his brother.
*my DH is actually alot nicer because of my mom..he spoke to her once the way he talked to him mom and my mom let him have it

Re: Question fo the day 10/22

Quite honestly, no. He's never come to my defense. Right before Christmas of last year - she was ****ed because I had a falling out with SIL during the summer and I wouldn't agree to 'leave' my house on Christmas so that she could 'entertain' HER family in my home! Why? Because BIL/SIL would not come over if I was there (too freaking bad, it's my house!). So the three of us had a 'discussion' in my kitchen over that and other issues I was holding back on for quite some time. Things got very heated and finally I told her exactly what I thought of her (she got upset because I told her I thought she had intentionally been malicious the prior Christmas when she 'gave' me an ornament for our tree, one that his former girlfriend had given him that was personalized 'To Bob, With love always, Laurie'). She stormed out in her typical dramatic fashion with tears a' flowing. He put his ring on the counter and follwed her out. That was it, I was done. I think we both stayed clear of each other for several weeks. I'm not really sure what the turning point was, maybe when I started packing my stuff and he really knew it was over. He changed, somewhat and started to become more objective of the situation (especially since his mother had lied right to his face that night after they left). Whatever the case, we're still married. The situation between us improved greatly as long as they were out of the picture. As long as I didn't see them, there was NO problems between us. They couldn't butcher/twist my words around, nor did I have to deal with their constant abuse. Somehow they started worming their way back into my life (showing up at the house unexpectedly, etc.) and now I'm forced back into the situation. For so long, I felt calm and at peace. Now the resentment is starting in again and I hate how I feel due to their influence. I feel bitter, angry and defensive. I feel it towards my husband too because he enables them to treat me this way/feel this way and he does nothing. He's no better than them if that's the case (yet they abuse him on some level too). I don't know how I'm going to deal with the holidays, considering he is BEGGING me to have them at the house. Anyone have any fail-proof poison recipes on hand?

Re: Question fo the day 10/22

I truly feel your pain sweetie, it seems as if sometimes the men in our lives can never see the other side of the coin when it comes to their female relatives, whether it be mom or sisters. I had to point out to hubby how uncomfortable his sisters made me feel and if I decide not to go to their homes I do not want him to take it as a direct hit against him. I refuse to let anyone make me feel uncomfortable. I made the choice whether to go or to stay. I can only imagine the kinds of feelings you have, I feel it in your words. Why can people spend their lives making other people's lives miserable. I think you need to really speak to your hubby about your feelings, it is never too late to fix it. I know it must be so hard for you to take the step when you are not the one causing the problem. Your marriage is important to you, don't let them win, don't let them steal your joy. They are not worth it. I do not know how you can host them know how you feel. Hubby needs to put his foot down to them, that if they disrespect his wife they are not allowed in your home. I am sorry but the line has to be drawn. Please do take care of yourself sweetie and work at it with your hubby. You 2 are the only ones that are important in this equation. All the best to you. You can always vent to us, we will listen

Wow! I feel so bad for you guys who have such nasty MILs!!!! My heart goes out to you! My MIL is a doll and treats me like I'm her own daughter!!! I'm very lucky because my DH is her only child and I thought for sure that she wouldn't be excepting of anybody who was with her baby, but boy was I wrong!!! She has been nothing but loving toward me since the moment she met me!!!

What I never understood was why any MIL would be so hurtful and mean to somebody who married their sons. Why would you want to put a wedge between you and your son? I don't get it.
