Question for 11-21-02

OK, thought this would be a good topic to start...

What would you have changed on your wedding day if you could have?

It can be anything to everything (weather, picked another DJ, changed your hair, etc). I also thought this would be a good topic for the newlyweds to read and get good advice from!

Re: Question for 11-21-02

I would have been a better dancer (as impossible as changing the weather); I would have wished it to be more autumn weather than summer (80 degrees in Oct!); I would have NOT had Lukes mother's mean old friend fall down and start accusing the waiters of tripping her (she is a nasty witch who cant stand anyone else being the center of attention); I would NOT have had Luke's uncle get all upset about where he was sitting and ruin a good part of the evening for his mother (didnt ruin our evening one bit)...and the biggest one:

I WOULD HAVE MAKE TIME SLOW WAY DOWN FOR ALL THE IMPORTANT STUFF SO I COULD REMEMBER IT BETTER BECAUSE IT WAS ALL (even the stuff above) SO WONDERFUL!

I would have remembered to bring my cake topper and kiddush cup from my condo in Boston! DOH!

Re: Question for 11-21-02

Well I wished 9/11 never happened of course -- it didn't ruin my wedding because of course everything that happened and people that were lost was far more important than me having a wedding of my dreams.

I just missed that many of our wedding party members and close friends and family members were unable to make it.

I also would have insisted that I didn't go with the included centerpieces and upgraded because I really didn't get what I wanted.

Everything else really was perfect.

Oh and that I would have had more time to spend with my grandparents and gotten some formal pictures with them. I completely forgot and still feel horrible about it.

I wish I could change the weather.

My day was perfect - not one mishap and I had a great time at my wedding. The day flew by...but I still had a fantastic time.

It was very misty that day and while I do have some outside shots...I wish I had that beautiful fall day that we were hoping for. (The reason why we picked the middle of October!)

Re: Question for 11-21-02

hmmmm.....DH and I discussed that this weekend. All in all, we wouldn't change much. I haven't seen the video yet but I may add to it (like Stef - I am scared to see my dancing on film).

The only vendor I am terribly disappointed with was Coach! I would have used someone else to shuttle my guests so they wouldn't have been 20 mins late to the cocktail party.

I wish my bustle didn't keep coming down because people kept stepping on the little piece of material that hit the floor. It caused me to miss time at the party while the buttons got sewed back on!

I wish I had more time to spend with every guest but still had the great time I had at the party (meaning I don't regret partying and dancing so much at all!)

I wish I had pictures of a lot of the little things I did to make the day special. Like my pretty basket of programs and bubbles I made, I don't have a close up of my pumpkin placecards, my scavenger hunt table cameras, etc. Although I loved my pictures taht I have and my photographer, there weren't enough of pictures like this and many were not very original and not enough candids. I wish I had more pictures of my guest having fun and less posed shots of DH and I and our families.

I have one more family thing that bothers me but I am afriad to post it! hehe.

Sounds like a lot but, I was very, very happy with my day.

Re: Question for 11-21-02

We were talking about this last weekend also.

I would have hired a second photographer that shoots in a more candid/photojournalistic style.

I would get a different dress. My dress is beautiful but I now consider it a waste of money.

I wish we had a receiving line so we could have officially greeted everyone and then do our best to go around to everyone during the reception. BUt I think we would have enjoyed the reception more if we didn't feel like we HAD to see everyone.

I would have skipped taking pictures at wetbury gardens.

But most importantly -
I would not leave my new husbands side the entire day!!

Re: Question for 11-21-02

I would have changed the weather to a nice fall, autumn day with the leaves already turned in color...the day that I wished that would have happened from when we chose our reception site for its golf course and its beauty.

I wish I would have done a Video!! I know people said before to do it, and it was so expensive at the time but we had friends do a little from their personal cameras and it made me want a full length one.

Although I haven't gotten my proofs back yet I would have perhaps looked around more at photogs. I booked them before I saw a lot of proofs on here! I just think that they weren't creative enough but my proofs will say more.

Re: Question for 11-21-02

I would have confirmed my hair stylist the day before the wedding. Also, I would have taken a break from photos after the ceremony so that I could have enjoyed some of my cocktail hour. I heard it was so nice but I did not get to see or taste it before they broke it down. And lastly, I would liked to have had a receiving line. I know it takes alot of time but there were people I did not get to say hello until the end of the reception to and that upset me. Regardless, I had an amazing wedding and such a great time. People are still talking about how it was the best wedding they have ever been to.

Re: Question for 11-21-02

i wish that i had a photo list, i love my pictures, but there are plenty that i don't have that i wish i did! i don't have a formal shot with my grandma, i can't believe it! but it was impossible for me to think straight that day...i also agree about closeup shots of favors and programs that i am missing too....but i feel grateful that we were so happy that everything went so well, and no major mishaps!! i truly felt that so much worrying was not needed after seeing how well my hall and the people there RAN the day!! it was wonderful....

Re: Question for 11-21-02

Changes: I would have paid someone to decorate my cake the way I wanted, instead of the 1/2 a$$ way they did it.
I would have NOT had anyone upset with me over stupid stuff (like where my parent's friends table was in the room) during the planning and wedding. Even though no one is mad, I still stress when people are not super happy with me. Stupid I know.

But honestly, part of the beauty of the day is the fact that not every single thing was exact, perfect. That is more real life.

Re: Question for 11-21-02

All in all we had a spectacular day and I think all the things I obsess about, nobody else cares about...

with that said, I wish I made a formal list for my photographer. I love my proofs and he did a fnatastic job, but like the others said, there are so many I wish I had...but never asked for. like table pics of my friends etc. However, they were never all sitting, which means they had a great time! so that is what is most important.....

mostly though, I would have wished God hadn't chosen my bestfriends mom on my day and allowed my friend to be with us in the celebration and be a part of my day. Everytime I look at bridal party pics...I am sad that she isn't there....
but as Michelle said...life isn't perfect and the more we realize that, the less dissapointed we should be...

Re: Question for 11-21-02

I hate to do this because, like everyone said, the day could not have been better. I really am greatful that I don't have anything other than petty stuff to list . . .
I would have been done my hair differently (and not been pressured into something someone else liked).
I would have remembered that I bought a $50 shawl and worn it!
I would have insisted that my photographer/videographer stayed until the last minute of the reception.
I would have gone with my gut feeling on the flowers and spent a little extra money for what I wanted.

mickey- I also wish your best friend did not have to lose her mother on your wedding day. How awful for her and you.

Re: Question for 11-21-02

hmmm, I really don't have much I'd like to have changed. While the weather was hot for Oct (same day as SonicStef) I;m THRILLED it was sunny, since the rest of the Sats that month seemed to rain
I'm a little disappointed with some guests, but after the initial shock, I refuse to let them bother me!

At the last minute we decided to see each other before the ceremony, which I will be forever grateful for - it gave all of us more of a relaxing, happy day, and no one was rushed or nervous at the church, or while taking pictures.

I appreciate that Michelle....it really made me put things in perspective.

your pics are beautiful...I saw them on the other board.

Mickey - even though we all know our complaints are petty, reading your post really made me feel bad for even making a list! My little problems were nothing compared to yours.

Re: Question for 11-21-02

i wish my centerpices were prettier than they actually were....i didn't get what i asked for...

i wish dh's aunt - who decided to pick the moment dh and i were to be anounced as mr. and mrs for the first time, to complain about the seating arrangements and threaten to leave - would have just shut up...(she made me cry at one of the most important moments of our night)

most of all - i wish my aunt, who was sick from the chemo side effects, could have been there with us...

Re: Question for 11-21-02

Mickey - that's so sad!

Even more so, is that when I first read this question, it didn't even occur to me to answer that I'd love it for my dad to have been alive to see me get married. Now I feel a little guilty not thinking that, but I guess I'm just looking at what's in our control

Re: Question for 11-21-02

I don't think I would have had it on a Sunday night - but we had to do it on a Sunday night or wait an entire year. I also would have paid more attention to the music being played and requested more stuff that I had originally asked for. And I would have done a donation or Krispy Kremes as my favor and not let my mother win out with napkin holders But overall, they are such little things compared to how wonderful the entire day was!
