Question for Cat owners...

Original post by Butterfly123

I recently bought a cheaper brand of kitty litter (clumping) and I noticed now her pee smells like AMMONIA so bad that I cant even smell it without it burning my nostrils. Is that bad? Do all cats urine smell like that or do you think I should bring her to the vet? When I use the Fresh Step I dont smell it as much but maybe its just masking it. Does anyone elses cats pee stink like ammonia that bad??

I always used Feline Pine. It is not traditional litter, it is made of compressed pine pellets so it smells like a forest. Lasts for about two weeks before you change it. The pee gets absorbed by the pellets and the poo gets picked out and flushed down the toilet.
My cat liked it, never gave me a problem when I switched from the traditional stuff.

That sounds nice! Where can you get it?

Did by chance you buy the Arm and Hammer brand because DH got a couple of boxes free from work due to someone losing their cat and oh my god it stinks. I usually use Scoop Away and never had a problem. I cant wait to use this stuff up and get that brand again. I would stick to Scoop Away or Fresh Step. Those are the 2 my kitty likes.

Supermarket or Target.
It is a bit more expensive than clay type litter, but it lasts longer and to my nose, well worth it.

Speaking of cat litter anyone try the blue crystals yet. I think I want to switch my self cleaning litter box to that one.. Seems cleaner and neater , I hate that clay clumping smell period!

I think it is the litter. Cat pee smells very gross. I would try another litter.

The Fresh Step with the Blue Crystals? Yea we loved that one but the Scoop Away works just as well if not better for our cats and its a sh!tload cheaper so we buy that. Its the same really fine consistency.
